Outlaw Audio LFM-1 sub???
Has anyone ever heard of the Outlaw Audio LFM-1 sub? I'm trying to find a most bang for the buck subwoofer for my HT setup and Cnet seems to really like this one, but I'm unfamiliar with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any other suggestions would be great too! I'm in the sub $500 price range if that helps at all. Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard it myself, but I've heard good things about it. And Outlaw Audio generally makes really good gear.SDA 1C, SDA 2A, SDA SRS 2, CMT-340SE, Swan M200MKII, Swan D1080MKII, Behringer MS40

That's nice to hear. I'm still quite the newbie so I'm not familiar with all the names out there, or even half of the names I guess. I'm going to keep doing some research to try to find out more. Thank you.

I have the original LFM-1. I think it's a solid choice in the $600 range. I've never heard it strain for HT in my medium size room (approx 28' x 18' x 8').
It's based on the HSU STF-3 design.
Offerings from HSU and SVS are other good choices to consider.5.1 and 2.0 ch Basement Media Room: Outlaw 975/Emotiva DC-1/Rotel RB-1582 MKII/Rotel RB-1552/Audiosource Amp 3/Polk LS90, CS400i, FX500i/Outlaw X-12, LFM-1/JVD DLA-HD250/Da-Lite 100" HCCV/Sony ES BDP/Sonos Connect. This Dayton sub kit is also an option around $600. Figured I'd mention it since you're close to Parts Express in Springboro.

They're selling for $399 on Amazon right now which is why I was getting a little interested in them. I'm still looking at the PSW505 a lot too because of the amount of bang for the buck that it has. I'm not going to rush though because I might be able to find a better deal somewhere in the next few months.

I like the confidence you have in that recommendation. I've never been completely sold on Polk subs because it's not what they are necessarily known for. I'm sure that they have some good ones, but I'm definitely considering the Outlaw.

I have the LFM-1 Compact combined with Monitor 70s and CS2 up front and Monitor 60s as surrounds. Love my setup. -
I've got Monitor 60's up front with the CS2 and I haven't yet decided on what I'm going to use for rear surrounds. I'd love to get the 70's for up front and put the 60's as rears, but I almost think that's overkill. Plus, according to Polk, the surrounds are supposed to be placed above your head so they are less noticeable, but still there. If I move the 60's to the rear then they will definitely be right there at ear level. Thanks for the input on the sub because I'm leaning farther that way.

Ok...there is this one listed on Ebay. It's a Dayton C1500 sub. It's been modded, but I'm too clueless as to if this is a good thing or not?? Here's the link:

The $399 Outlaw from Amazon is the LFM-1 Compact, right?
This is the 10" model, whereas I believe the rest of us have various versions of the 12".
Don't get me wrong, the Outlaw 10" for $399 is still a good sub and value. Should be very similar to this, which has a slightly lower price.

I also have a 12" Outlaw, the LFM-1 Plus. It performs really well and looks good too. Probably the best looking one I've seen short of the wood and piano black finish found only in $$$ subs. I haven't heard the $399 LFM-1 Compact personally. For what it's worth, a couple of owners on another forum raved about theirs. Listed shipping rate on Amazon is over $50. IIRC, shipping the bigger and heavier LFM-1 Plus to me would have cost ~$40. So if you're interested in Outlaw, go directly to their website http://www.outlawaudio.com/ to save a few bucks.
At the sub $500 level you also have:
-Elemental Designs A2-300 ($350 shipped, $400 after May 15)
-HSU STF-2 or VTF-1 ($380 or $445 shipped)
-SVS PB10 (about $500 shipped) -
Hmmm...even more to ponder now. Thank you all for the input and even more input is great. I'm not going to rush to buy a sub because I'm not moving into my new house for a couple months yet. The room will be fairly large (not exactly sure of the dimensions off hand). Right now I don't have room for much more in my apartment because of the Monitor 60's, CS2, 50" Panasonic plasma TV and remaining sub and 2 satellite speakers from my Polk htib I was using. If I buy (when I buy) one of these recommended subs, I don't want it while in my apartment because my neighbors will probably hate me very much. Anyways, I guess if I find a deal that is impossible to pass up then I won't pass it up, but right now I'm just looking at all options.

Wingnut,
How do you like your Quad4 sealed Hsu sub? How are they compared to the SVS that you used to own?
To the OP, get the 12" Outlaw, Hsu or SVS. If you get the 10" sub, you will have the urge to upgrade soon. Might as well spend a little more money and be happy w/it. -
I'm definitely going to get a 12" sub when I decide on what I want. When I originally posted this thread I didn't realize that I was looking at the compact 10" one on Amazon. I was researching the 12" but excited about the price of the 10". Thanks for the input.

What Polk sub would you recommend in the sub $500 price range? I'm open to all opinions so I'll just stop limiting my options completely here other than the price. I've only owned Polk speakers in my lifetime, so I obviously respect their products, but I haven't heard many recommendations for their subs over some of the more well-known companies that are being mentioned
