Polk DSW Micropro 1000 doesn't work in my system

Just got a DSW Micropro 1000 for my 2 channel system and am hooked up using my Musical Fidelity A1 pre-outs to the line level inputs on the sub. Unfortuately, the MF pre-outs don't have sufficent signal strength to drive the Micropro 1000 to any useful SPL levels. Even at full throttle (volume 40) I am lucky to sqeak out an SPL level of 65 -70. Once I initally set it up and set the volume to 30 out of 40 I used the mute and noticed it didn't sound much different when it was muted. I then disconnected my speaker cables so I could get some SPL readings on just the sub. Low.... I then moved the sub to my HT system and it worked just fine putting out prodigious bass for its size. Guess I can't blame Polk since the sub works, just doesn't work for my gear. I bought it from Newegg (Authorized dealer) but I think I can only return it for a replacement, not a refund. I either got a new doorstop  or a second sub for my HT :D Am I missing anything here?

And another pisser is that the volume up or down control for my MF A1 on my Harmony One seems to control various random functions on the Micropro 1000 - occasionally. If I increase the voulme for my A1, the volume on the micropro goes down, or it gets muted, or it does nothing. Bizarre...

So I replaced the Micropro 1000 with an SVS Pb12 plus/2 I had laying around and got the same whimpy performance for 2 channel - the MF seems suspect.
