Yamaha AVR remote codes

Gang,
I realize that this is pretty far off-topic, but I haven't found a nicer bunch of AV geeks to bother than y'all, so here goes :D

I'd like to program the remote control that came with my Yamaha RX-V663 to control my cable receiver/DVR, but the brand (Scientific Atlanta) is not included under *any* category in the list of remote control codes included in the owner's manual. For that matter, they don't even include a category for cable receivers, but I did look in the DVR category as well as the rest of the categories and didn't find that brand in any of them. I know that Scientific Atlanta has been around enough years that they shouldn't have been ignored by Yammie...

I found this page on Yamaha's site, but the menu with components does not include the 663 or my remote's model # (285)
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/generaldetail.html?CNTID=450641&CTID=5010050

For kicks I downloaded the listings for the V640 and V795 (because my 663 is in between them, model-wise) and they have a listing for Cable TV, and these include Scientific Atlanta. Of course, the codes don't match each other... So I'm not sure if trying them on mine is going to work, but if all else fails, I might as well try them.

Anyone know where I could find the correct info for my receiver or any better tricks to get this thing to work?
TIA!

The receiver I had before this one was a Yamaha RX-V1000, if I recall correctly. It used to control my cable box/DVRs. I'm hoping that this was just an oversight in Yamaha's manual for the 663. I suppose I could call Yamaha's tech support. It's a toll call but at least their N. American facility is only one county away from where I live (I just found that on their website).

Well that's very interesting--thanks. The guide you found differs from mine. The front cover has a "G" in the box in the top right corner, whereas mine as a "U" plus some other differences like other languages shown on the cover (although the rest of the manual is English only in both that one and in mine).

But the list of remote codes is different from my manual. Weird. I'll give those a try. Thanks!

Do you have the Scientific Atlantic remote control?? If so, can'y you use the Yammy remote "Learn" function. This is how I programmed 2 devices into my Yammy remote. It's a pain but it works.
Yep, my name really is Bob.

The "U" I think is for the North American released version of the AVR. The "G" I think refers to the "general" release version or at least in this case what was released in Great Britton

Unfortunately the 663's remote is not a learning remote.

Disregard my last post. I just downloaded the 663 users guide from this link.

    http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/YAMAHA/RX-V663-_E

It gives a list of remote codes for Scientific Atlantic on page #135. Try these...

    0035, 0504, 0904, 1904.

For the Yamaha RX V663, the code for the AVR receiver itself may be 599 from what I found so far. Anyway, try those. Hope this helps. Let us know.

I had no luck with those codes. The first one was the only one that the remote would accept (the others caused the amp button to flash repeatedly) but it didn't operate my cable box :(

Oh well, I'd probably need my cable remote anyway, as it has a ton of functions that I'd probably never figure out on my Yamaha remote anyway

I tried a Harmony a couple years ago and it didn't play well with my computer :-/ I've heard that they've improved, but I don't know if I'm ready to test those waters again right now.

LOL, too late, it went back to the store from which it came (too expensive to file away for later) :)
