why do YOU love your POLKS

I think it fair to say that we all found our way here because we love our speakers... I pose this question so that we can share what first attracted us to the brand and why we stay far more brand loyal than most manuracturers could possibly wish for....

I first fell in love with Polks back in the mid 80's when I first heard them next to a pair of Cerwin Vega's with a huge 15" woofer. I was A/b comparing them on what I believe was a Pioneer reciever. The Polks were almost twice as expensive as the Vegas, and ten times more musical. I vowed that someday I would own a pair. IMHO, I felt that Polks were about as close a common man could ever get to audio bliss, as everything that sounded even close to them was an order of magnitude more expensive.

Today I still hold that belief, and am happy I have them...:)

I got my first polks in 2000 and what atracted me was build quality and sound. I never thought i would be doing what i am doing today by any means. I always wanted towers but i put it behind me as the years went by till just a few months ago when i found the A9's on ebay. I new nothing about SDA's till i found this place. so i am still new to most of this but i don't care. I am OK with being the fish so to speak. Now i own 2 set's of SDA's and i refurbished one set,and upgraded the tweets, and i had a great time doing it. Now i am not just refurbing the next set i am doing upgrades on the xovers with the help of someone here and i am putting in the RDO 198's in these as well. These babys should sing.

Its not only loving Polk, but loving the hobby and learning that draws me into it as well as a better sounding system.

You could call it Polk Auddicted.

The Vintage Polks are great bang for buck speakers. Can't go wrong with Polk. Never knew this type of addiction could exist till I came across this damn website. Now I have to see a Doctor 3 days a week.

I hate my Polk's. Tomorrow I'm going to connect them all directly to the wall outlet and watch the drivers go up in flames. Then I'll get a bonfire going and throw whatever remains of the speakers in it and watch them burn. Then I'm going to go buy some Bose speakers.

Seriously though...They sound great, and don't break the bank. I got my 7A's for 20 bucks, and I couldn't be happier with them. My RTi's are some killer HT speakers, and didn't cost me anywhere near as much as other brands I'd been looking at.

Customer service is also excellent, and has went a long way towards making me a life long customer. Polk is going to be getting a lot of my money in the future. But I'm going to be getting a lot more for that money than I would be with another company.

As far as how I first got turned onto Polk...I saw a picture of the RTiA9's on Crutchfields website, and thought they were gorgeous. I then decided that I was going to get some Polks after reading all of the rave reviews they were getting. I joined up here...and it was all over. Now I have 4 pairs of Polk speakers, and many more to come.

I fell in love with my 7Bs in 79. I was looking ot replace my first sytem (Home built Dynaco, Rotel TT, and Synergistic Speakers) that were "removed from my college residence without permission". I was spending the summer working in Boston and checking out the avaliable systems avaliable for the insurance settlement I had received. I first found Spendor and immedialty understood that I could not afford them, but then at a small store named Eardrum Audio (I think) they had the "New Polks" and I loved what I heard. They set me up with an great affordable system. Still have the Polks (in second system) and the TT (semi retired) from that purchase.

those RTi's are actually pretty good. the 8's were my favorite. like anything else, they sounded terrible setup by some 17 yr old kid at circuit city but done right with the right gear you'd be surprised.

I was always into having good sounding music in my car. Always ran a decent system with class A amps and sealed sub enclosures. People would ask "How loud does the bass go" and I'd respond "Who cares, it sounds fantastic at any volume I listen at."

When I finally decided to start getting something for indoors I picked up a used RCA receiver and speakers from a buddy. Didn't like the speakers at all (the were TERRIBLE) so, while knowing absolutely NOTHING about HT I went online and grabbed the r50's on the cheap from Fry's. Fell in love with them the second I plugged them in. I relized that for the price, Polk is really hard to beat.

I now have a full RTi setup and love it. Again: for the price I paid, amazing! My friends dad has a Paradigm system that he paid a fortune for from a local rip-off electronics store and I think my system sounds much better than his.

I hear a lot of the great customer service which is good, but I have yet to need it which is even better! No matter what comes my way in the next however-many years, at least one pair of Polks will always be with me.

Best sounding speakers I could find under $2K in 1989, and I still haven't found anything I like better (SDA-1C's).

I don't think that type of brand loyalty does Polk much good though. They haven't made any profit off me in 20 years, except for the RDO's. Maybe their products are too good!

Cheers to all, new to this forum, but I thought it was about time I shared my passion for hi fi and for vintage Polks.

By way of further introduction, speakerwise, I have 2 pairs of Monitor 5's, one with the Peerless tweeters and the other with the SL-2000's, I have a pair of Monitor 7's with the Peerless tweeters, a pair of Monitor 10's with the Peerless tweeters and a pair of RTA-11T's.

There's a simple rationale for loving my Polks, and it all can be summarized in sound quality and extreme value for money.

I was introduced to the RTA=11t's first when my boss' son was getting a divorce and his new apartment and girlfriend had no room for them. He knew I was interested in music and stereo equipment and he brought them to work and offered them to me for $200.00. I immediately said I could not afford them and told him to take them home, but he insisted that I try them out first . . . so I did.

Took them home and switched them with my Technics 1980's cheapies and listened to a vastly superior pair of speakers, I was, simply amazed. Nonetheless, I could not afford $200.00 back then and I put them back in my van and went to work the next day.

He asked me how I liked them and I gave him my glowing review and told him that I just couldn't afford them. He asked me how much I could afford and I said max $100.00, expecting him to say no way.

To my surprise he said keep them and pay him the $100.00 when I could.

I was so amazed with these speakers that I raved about them to all my friends. That was back in 1998.

As time progressed, i eventually was able to afford to upgrade my equipment, so I bought a Cayin Tube integrated amplifier, a tube buffer, a turntable, decent cassette player, good CD player, etc. and have never gotten rid of the Polks.

Eventually, I acquired multiple amplifiers, cassette decks, turntables, CD players etc. and I expanded my Polk line.

I did look at other speakers, but did not find anything affordable that could even come close to the Monitor line, even for twice the money.

My Polks are here to stay, just that now I'm looking for some large SDA's to play with.

    Cheers
