A heartbeat at 6 weeks

Last Tuesday (the 18th) we went in for our first Ultrasound. At 6 weeks the baby is 1/4" in size and the nurse showed us the hearbeat. I was floored that at 6 weeks they can see so much and that the heart is beating...amazing.

Having a second child had not hit me until the nurse said the due date is October 15th, at that moment, it hit...bam!

Peace Out~:D

Congrats Ron, I remember that 6 week ultrasound, AMAZING stuff there. I cried like a baby, mouth all quiverin', hands shaking.

    Cheers,

We had our first on January 16th, and the part where I lost it was the 3-4 month ultrasound where they measure all the parts, beyond the 5-fingers/ 5-toes thing, where they can see the heart is ok, brain ok, all that stuff.
When every thing checked out with the doc I've never, ever, felt that relieved in my life. Talk about fricken perspective. I almost look at life different now... slow down and don't run the yellow lights, take that extra look at my daughter before I head to work, savor the things that are important beyond my understanding.

And now I don't care if one wire run is longer than another... :)

I hope with my next child I can be as involved as you are NOW Ron and GOOD on YOU!

Unfortunatly my job had me traveling 100% of the time while my wife was pregnant and I feel guilty to this day that I was not there for my wife. Stupid job... I missed this part my daughters development.

When Talia was born I was so moved I asked the company for a demotion so I could be with my girls and fortunately they supported me.

The best thing in life is OUR Children even running NEKKID through the house. ;)

It's a pretty amazing coincidence, Ron, that you would post this today, because my wife had her first appointment today, and she will be due between Oct. 13-15th:)
Being our 1st child, we didn't know that they were going to show us that, or I would have went with her to the appointment:(
The doctor said I am more than welcome to come to the next one, so I can see it too!

SAME HERE!! And that was during conception!!

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs.Ron_P, and of course to Mr. & Mrs.Shepx2!! I've got Still-Pics of both my kids as well as VHS tapes from the ultrasounds. We had a lot because my wife is a diabetic and both pregnancies were considered high risk. I was THE biggest pain in the A$$ when my wife was pregnant with our first (my son), I got a book that showed all of the stages of fetal development via ultrasounds and "Womb-Cams." I had that damn book memorized, even though my wife kept hiding it from me.

FYI...The book is called "A Child is Born" by Lenard Nellson (SP?). If you don't have it already have it ....GET IT!!!

It's pretty amazing isn't it? The doctor told my wife that the advances made in that technology have been huge the last few years.
Pretty soon, they'll know what the baby will be thinking before it's even born! :)

Congrats ron, you need to have two more after this one and you can join my club.........the one were you say ( honey its time for one of use to get fixed). Our first child was born 4 months premature in 92 and only weighed in at 1.5 lbs, he wasn't much bigger than a barbie. What was wild was looking at him and thinking to yourself that this kid still had four months of time to spend in the womb. He wouldn't have even been here now if it were not for the tech breakthroughs that were available even then. Hope everything goes well for you and your wife.

    Week 6
(counting from first day of last menstrual period)
    Around 4 Weeks After Conception

Fetal Development: My Heart Belongs to You!
The first heartbeats have begun! The baby is now an embryo and is about 1/17 of an inch long. Growth is very rapid this week. The umbilical cord develops. The eyes and ears begin to form as well as an opening for the mouth. The heart has begun to pump blood and most of the other organs are well under construction. Buds form on the body that will become the arms and legs.
    Exciting week!

Hey we kept track on both our kids with this website, it's good reading and info and your wife can also keep track of things...

Thanks for all the great comments guys and congrats to Shep!!!

Scary stuff, this is. Our first daughter weighed in at 10.5 lbs. During delivery, she got stuck in the birth canal. A little trauma and they kept her in the hospital for 6 days for observation. Not a bad thing, it was just difficult. Having another brings back those memories. Add to that, my wife is RH- and I am RH+, her body see's me as an infection and fights it. This makes the pregnancy a little extra risky as well. But, it was good to see and hear that everything is great so far.

    Peace Out~:D

Same happened to us bud. We made it to 8 weeks.

Just be there for her, I know it is no comfort, but it is fairly common, and usually happens for a good reason.

My thoughts are with you and yours.

Thanks guys. It is tough, espically on her. It does leave a little empty hole in ya that will never be filled. Linda is going to make a quilt in memory of the little one. Something to help her cope. She was at week 8 as well.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

    Ron,

So sorry to hear this. My condolences. This happened to our closest friends also. The saddest part was their due date was within a few days of ours. We were looking forward to our children growing up together.
