Good musical sub?

I am currently looking for a good sub that will go well with my Vienna Acoustics Haydn's. I have heard good things about Rel's B2's and B3's but at $2,000 they are out of my budget. I prefer it to sound great for music, more so than HT.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Setup:

2 Channel: Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grand, T+A P 1230R, Primare SPA21, Oppo BDP-105
PC: Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand, Cambridge Azure 650A v2 , Peachtree iDAC, Denon DVD-3800BDCI

I am sure there are some good Polk subs but I don't have a lot of experance with them. I do know that Sunfire are good and I have had a few Definitive Technology subs.

    What is your budget?
Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

Look at the new Polk Micro Pro series of Subs, they are excellent for music, nice tight, musical bass.

Check out the smaller REL's T1, T2. They are much cheaper and have very good reviews linking with 2 channel systems.

Velodyne subs in that mid-range are among the best for music and HT...not overly powerful or pushing too hard to do what they do. I, second ...001s suggestions above.

If you want to spend a couple thousand or so...yeah there are better. But you'll be happy with a Velo.

Velo or REL, those two are good with music.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Thanks for the recommendations. I know of one dealer that had the Rel subs and will give them a listen to a few when I get closer to being able to buy one. Zero I will keep a look out for that Storm if you decide to sell it.

Not that I am an expert at all, but VMPS gets my vote. They do it correctly...huge boxes with huge woofers. Check out the some of the VMPS subs and at least take them into consideration.

I don't know exactly what your budget is but for less than $320 delivered and an hour of time putting together I have heard some really good things about this sub, and they have other more powerful subs too.

I'd check out the Rytmik line carried by Ascend Acoustics and the HSU ULS-15.

I have a couple rytmiks subs in DIY 2cu/ft sealed enclosures and they are excellent for music.

Nope, there's nothing you don't know about it. The Ultra is an excellent all round sub and stands toe to toe with JL, Velo DD18 and the Paradigm Servo 15.2 in the in room music comparisons and offers advantages to them all for HT. Not to say that the above suggestions don't have great sound quality. For a 2 channel rig or music only application, it's a bit overkill. You can spend less and get similar performance. I like the Rythmik idea for a music sub. If kept within it's limits (and their version of servo doesn't limit), it's one of the best sounding music subs I've heard at a reasonable price...even the prebuilt models.

    Combo rig:

Onkyo NR1007 pre-pro, Carver TFM 45(fronts), Carver TFM 35 (surrounds)
    SDA 1C, CS400i, SDA 2B
    PB13Ultra RO
    BW Silvers

This would be my suggestion as well. The T2's I've installed are phenomenal for the price.

CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I've used plenty of Velodyne subwoofers for installations, and they tend to be my go-to sub in some applications. Their SC series works very well in custom installations. As of late, I've been spec'ing the REL T series for entry level systems, and I usually spec 2(or more) of them in larger rooms. The T series blends very well with the Haydn's, and is actually a recommended setup by Vienna Acoustics.

There's that ACI subwoofer on Audiogon that looks delicious. I think it goes down to 18Hz or something? Now THAT's bass you feel but don't hear.

To date, the best subwoofer I have ever heard (and I've heard a few, SVS PC Ultra, Wilson Audio Watch Dog, M&K) would be the VMPS Larger Subwoofer with Megawoofers.

115db, 20hz -- sealed, push pull, slot loaded passive radiator - every positive attribute you can imagine, its got it. And its cheap. What more can you want? Its VERY accurate.

However, I think in about 2 weeks - the accuracy part of that may change when my new subs get here.. but the VMPS will always be my HT sub. The volume per dollar CANNOT be beat.
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Hi. I would take a look at these. Very muscial subs and all are highly regarded. In no particular order:

-Onix Rocket UFW-10 (great performer and inexpensive)
-Vandersteen 2W (hard to find but worth the look)
-JL Audio Fathom F110 (can find these for around $1300.00-$1400.00 used and will blow your house down)

Lots of great recommendations. My budget is around $500-600, and looking at mid to late June to make my decision. I'm looking at used or new I'm leaning towards Rel, or Totem right now. However I am going to do some more research.

Basically looking to upgrade my system and specifically 2 channel, I just picked up a B&K ST-202, Parasound preamp so I think the sub is my next big upgrade since the sub I have now is only good for HT.

Thanks again for all your guys input, I have a lot of good options now.

I decided to pick up a Velodyne VX-10 on sale for $130 at Fry's. I decided that I want to get a great sub like the JL Fathom F112 or Rel B-Series something that will be a final upgrade. Again thanks for the recommendations I will look in to these further when the time comes to make that big purchase.
