Looking for advice on a SS Amp, I know Adcom 555II would get me by.
I really want Rotel Pre and Amp. But to get me by till i have the funds to get what i want. i know there is NAD,SUNFIRE,CARVER,PARASOUND. is there something i am over looking that may just get me by to power these bad boys?

The ones i mentioned above what models would be good? with these having to be common ground and all? if i have missed some other brands as well that maybe out there that i am not looking at let me know. I just want something to get me by short term, but that is of good quality. or should i just go for the Adcom 555 or 555II? and be done for the short term?I have been looking everyday doing my homework, but a lot of you guys have been there done that. so your input is valid to me.

My X-overs are going to be done, and i am getting the RDO198's. I want to be able to play with these when all is said and done. I will be using a Yamaha receiver as a pre as well for short term if this helps at all. This set up will be going upstairs in our main livingroom, at least it is large in size.

Thanks in advance for any help and info with my project.

Larry.

The Adcom is probably going to be your best bang for the buck... but no guarantees since Adcom prices fluctuate. Rotel has good value for the money too.

Another one to keep in mind is Outlaw Audio. They make really solid stuff.
    SDA 1C, SDA 2A, SDA SRS 2, CMT-340SE, Swan M200MKII, Swan D1080MKII, Behringer MS40

    Outlaw Audio M2200 x2, GFA 555 II, BGW 750C

GDA 700, Outlaw Audio Model 990, Sansa Fuze, X-Fi Platinum Fatality

I have thought about it, and have looked at it. But since i have the XPA-3 i kinda wanna have something different. i have not counted it out though.

My wife loves the way the Emotiva products look, she loves the blue leds.;) If it was up to her we would have all Emotiva in this set up.

Why not just use your Emotiva to get you by. If you want to do a Rotel combo I'd recommend the 1082 pre and either the 1090 or 1091 mono blocks ( ice power) for the amps. I'm currently running the 1082 and a 1080 with my 2.3's. If I had the money I'd love to run the Adcom 750 pre with the 5802 amp. Also look at Adcom 565 mono blocks.

The Adcom is a good choice beyond the fact it performs very well. They typically are built like tanks, are inexpensive to buy and hold their value. The 555 is the single best selling amp of all time so there are lots to be had and rarely will you loose much money if and when you get the urge to move up the ladder.

I have the HT setup in the basement with the XPA-3 powering the front stage, and i would like to just keep it set up as is and not move things around. If it comes down that i don't have an amp yet when i am done with the upgrade on the SDA's then you know i will be hooking these up with it to hear them.;)

Sorry tom T I disagree, I think the older Adcom's sound better. Just remember TOOLFORLIFE any of the 55xx series are not common ground and you'll need to tie the negative speaker terminals together with some beefy wire to use them with the SDA's.

    P.s. except the 5802

Looking for advice on a SS Amp, I know Adcom 555II would get me by.

If you are seriously considering Adcom, the older 500 series bipolar amps and the newer 5000 series MOSFET amps do sound different. I currently own and use amps from both series and I don't think one sounds "better" than the other, it is a matter of taste. I prefer the bass speed and bass slam of the 500's, but I prefer the overall detail of the 5000's. If you like a brighter sound, you might prefer a 500 series amp over the more laid back 5000 series.

I have run my 1.2TL's with the following Adcoms (in order of preference):

    GFA-5802
    Bi-amped GFA-5500's
    Single GFA-5500
    GFA-565 monoblocks
    GFA-555 MkII
Bi-amped GFA-5802's (did not like at all)
GFA-555 MkII bridged pair (did not like at all)

I used to run a pair of SVS CS Ultra passive subwoofers in my home theater. A pair of GFA-565 monoblocks provided harder hitting bass over a single GFA-5802. The 565 monoblocks and the 5802 are both 300 watts per channel.

I had the 5800, and I really liked it, but I chose to keep the 585 because it is a classic limited edition. I liked the 5800 more for fast slam.

Nope. It has fans that run fairly quiet. You need to be near them to hear them. I ran mine at less than 2 ohms a few times.

The 5500 is probably decent. I had a 5400 that opened my eyes to Adcom, but was not what I was looking for.

Since you're just looking for something to get you by before your big purchase, why not go for a nice used integrated amp? There are so many to choose from.

I would like to stay around $500, and save my play money till i can get what i want. since i am investing in these SDA's i would like to get something really nice. and that looks really nice to keep the wife happy since they are going in the livingroom. she could care less what i do in the basement and garage.

You have a really nice place Kevin i would love to have the space you have in the basement. you could setup 4 rigs down there easy. at least you have the room to have an HT setup on one side and a 2 channel rig on the other with a pool table. that would be the S&*T right there.
