I was sitting reading my Sound and Vision mag on Sunday afternoon. Checked out a list of the top 10 CD's and DVD's of 2002 in there. One caught my eye.. Norah Jones. Hardly ever heard of her, I do like her current hit, Don't Know Why.

I drive to my local record store to find her CD all sold out. I"m thinking, wow someone must really like her. SO I make my way to another store.. they have it in stock.. and get this for $12.96! I pick it up.. go home and listen to alll of it. Wow, she is wonderful to listen to in the background.

Couple hours later.. i watch off and on the Grammys. Who cleans up on awards? you got it Norah Jones. I was amazed, didn't think she had captured the music world like she had.

Finally, I just found out she is coming to town in a few months. Guess i'll be going. :D

I heard on the radio this morning that she she was nominated in eight categories and won in all eight. I've heard her and she is pretty good, but...not that good. I think this is more of a sad comentary on the state of "popular" music today (or lack thereof).

You know what is ironic about her, she really wants to be known as jazz vocalist, that's why she signed up with Blue Note records, which is a well known jazz label studio...
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I wasn't aware that she is the daughter of Indian sitar master Ravi Shankar.

Umm, Im sorry that womans music is certainly not that exceptional. Winning that many Grammy's is so obtuse I can't even begin to think how far deep and political this must have been.

Her music is fantastic. Not groundbreaking or anything but good.

I think the big part is that "mainstream" music is realizing how good jazz music is, since most people had never been exposed to it before. they just got a LITTLE taste of it with her.

well yeah Norah Jones is certainly the flavor of the month no doubt about that.. you know how things like this go.. everyone jumps on the bandwagon whenever someone does well.
I have to agree with some of you guys.. she's not all that. There are better vocalists out there... she needs work on her voice.

I think Dianne Schuur, Natalie Cole, Diana Krall have better voices, but then they don't have a current hit out.

Remember a few years back.. Creed was it.. everyone couldn't get enough of Creed. where are they now? I hate Creed. What about Macy Gray? Where is she these days? This is Norah Jones' 15 minutes I believe.

The fact that Creed was ever compared to Pearl Jam makes me sick. Creed is not even in the same ball park as Pearl Jam....Can't stand Creed, or the radio for that matter.

IMO Rose Smith's 'Dawnraiding' and Aimee Mann's 'Lost in Space' were better albums, but didn't get any recognition. I tried Norah's album since it was on sale at CC and my wife likes it, but the other 2 are a lot better for 'mellow female vocalist' type stuff. Not as jazzy, but much stronger albums musically and for originality. Highly recommended.

I like the new Pearl Jam album. I've like most all of their albums. I think it's good that they change the sound a little bit. If they kept making music that sounded like Ten then I think it would be a little boring. It's good to see some musicians in todays day and age change things up a bit!

Pearl Jam has quite the cult following (me included) that's going to like ANYTHING they put out. I don't see them falling off the music scene unless they break up!

Pearl Jam have Gods to me since the first time I heard Porch back in the early ninties. Their evolution over the past 13 years has been absolutely amazing. Don't get me wrong, Ten is one of my favorite albums of all time but they were just angry kids then. I think the changes started with No Code. Yield is wonderful, I like Binaural even better. Riot Act blows my mind every time that I hear it.
Very glad that they found Matt Cameron and were able to keep him. He fits into the mix perfectly, one of the most amazing drummers I have ever seen. Hated to see Ambrutruzze go. Didn't really like Jack Irons style, he just didn't seem to fit into the group very well. It was like four young guys and an old ****. He could never keep up with their tour schedule.
The addition of the Hammond B3 on the new record is wonderful. I have bootlegs of all the shows they have played thus far this year in Australia and Boom plays in most of the songs, even old ones....sounds great.
Any of you guys going to check them out this summer??? I have front row seats to Buffalo, NY show and Toronto Canada. Can't wait!
