Pricing for the gear is getting more affordable and much easily accessible here in Canada and we are quite a step behind the US so I think it must be a great option for you guys in the US. This also adds to the hobby. So I gatter your room is fully HT? Do you have a seperate 2 channels or you use the HT room and gear as double function?

I guess I should have paid little more attention to your signature when it comes to the HT. Seem like quite a gamer too. How do you like the HTPC to run everything? Ok, seems like your HT is run 2 channels, right?

Spiffy! I can't wait for my HT room to be finally completed but I am hung-up on the soundproofing and treatment as I want to do it right (once for all). Read so much about the different possibilities, the pros and cons and the confusion leads me to procrastination. Nothing beats a projection room, every time I use the projector for HD movie watching, I am in awe!

The mirror effect behind your TV gives a great look and must gives the impression of such a larger room however, does it distract you from focussing on the movies?

It feels little odd you are using the 5.1 with the TV ratter than with the PJ room? I personnally kept my old 2 channels with the TV in the living room and I am using the 7.1 in the projection/HT room. Mind you, my Sony TVs while in good shape aren't in HD (sort of sad, as I wouldn't have minded using the Polk surroundbar with one of them).

The HTPC is awesome. It has two tuner cards for OTA HD and SDTV, dual monitor outs, video capture card, 7.1 analog audio out and audio over HDMI. It can control a component with the IR blasters and integrates nicely with the Onkyo receiver and other gear.

Why don't you like the 2ch with the projector?

Why don't you like the 2ch with the projector?

Not that I don't like but my view of the projector is to give movie the maximum HT effect and I think the 5 or 7.1 would take care of the maximum effect of the audio during movies. Since you personnaly experience the 2 types of set-up, maybe you could comment if you feel you are missing any of the audio effects during movie projection? Unless the PJ and 2 channels is dedicated mainly to music/video arrangements?

Yup. Concert DVD's, Music HD on Cable, classical performances, and music videos are played back on the 2ch system.

Movies are watched on the 5.1 system.

Don't worry, there can still be great entertainment without the ask kiking However, while the **** kicking doesn't bother me (only words on monitors afterall) however, I have to say I am not exactly used to it with frequenting forums which stricker and greather moderation. However, a new experience and too be honest I do find quite entertaining at times (it gets me ROTFLMAO). Other times, it simply disturbs the opportunity of learning and sharing views. Afterall, it is the main reason for me to spend time on any forums.

I see, here some variance in the use of our systems. Like I pointed out, I am still using my old 2 channels and while far from high end, I am somewhat reluctant to replace it as being from the old school I still prefer the old full (close too) range speakers over the stand alone boom box (subwoofer) as I haven't yet adapted to seperate speakers for music playing, I love the external sub for the LFE during movies though. The upstairs TVs aren't HD either, still CRT and far from being ready to be replaced since they both are Sony and both in good shape for many years still I predict. While I own a few DVDs with music, I tend to listen to music without video. However, if they had decided to produce a DVD of the Paul McCartney's show on the "Plaine d'Abraham" last summer in Quebec it would be a different story since I've always been a great fan of the Beetle and McCartney as a whole (McCartney & the wings etc...).

No doubt at all! Even with the experience of the just about dead cable tread, I read many other discussions where basically the same people were involved and it was in fact interesting and fruitfull so, far from stopping me from surfing this big huge knowledge bank :cool: On that note, I realize my Polk addiction is again abusing the old body sleep requirement so out the office and back home just like the little good kid that I am... or wish that I am???

I have approx 20 items plugged up to one outlet...

I have 3 power strips going down the back of my TV stand --- zip tied to the tv stand. Several of the power cables are routed within the TV stand... the others are ran down the right side of the TV stand - also zip tied in multiple places to the actual stand.

I also have two game console power supplies zip tied to the stand, along with a router, USB interface and other cables.

The signal cables are routed down the left side of the stand...

My MIT cables are free from any of the aforementioned cables by wall clips that suspend them to the wall and off the floor. Except the MIT power cables, they are as far from any other cable as I can manage.

Also forgot to mention the three power strips plug into one outlet on my MIT Z Center. The seperate components are plugged in seperate into the appropriate outlet.

I have a VERY neat cable situation right now, considering I have as much stuff as I do and you can't see any cables except the MIT stuff!

Actually, in my neighborhood all the original houses have this style living room...mirror wall, "box" shape, etc. built in the late 1940s to early 1950s. There's one house that even has the mirror wall all over the dining room area!

When we moved in the wall was already like that.

Wow. 20 items plugged up to one outlet? That's a lot of stuff!!

I personally have dedicated circuits for each of the high-draw devices (e.g. projector, sub, amp, etc.) so that there are no overloads. Did you consider installing dedicated circuits for your rig?

I have all my low-draw devices plugged into an APC in the following pic. It works very well:

That is a good thing. How many dedicated circuits did you have?

I certainly wouldn't recommend plugging everything up to one circuit - especially if there is a space heater or big amp in the room.

I agree with the reflection problem however, when it comes to looks it gives the room richness, glamour and definitely added looks to the gear infront of it. You never answered the question if the mirror effect was distracting when watching movies?

I've had dedicated AC outlets and breaker for my display rack of used gear (mainly TVs), dedicated AC outlets and breaker for the front counter which was used to show the client the end result repair of their gear and of course invoicing equipment. At the back of the room, I had 2 workstation/islands for repairing and testing gear with dedicated outlets and breaker (one of the island was dedicated for TV repairs and testing while the other one was mainly for audi and most smaller shelf type gear such as amplifier receivers, VCRs :eek:, tape decks, CD palyers etc... I had multiple power bars running from each area. Happened to me me a couple times that a breaker would pop but it was mainly while working on microwave oven which draw more power than most gears.

No, it's not distracting when watching movies because there is no light coming from the back of the TV screen. Hence, no reflection. Unless you have a light shined directly facing the mirror it does not bother me.
