Polk SDA SRS for sale possibly

Have a beautiful pair of SDA SRS' that I am thinking about putting up for sale. Recently divorced, living in a smaller home that doesn't do these justice. I live in the Seattle area and could deliver or meet half way for the right offer. Having a hard time parting with these, I am the second owner and they have been cared for meticulously, no scratches on wood, grilles near perfect. Sound is perfect, the one thing that is keeping me from posting on Ebay. What should I expect is a reasonable offer for these? thx: eek:

welcome to CP. and do yourself a favor and keep these. I lost mine in a divorce and my ex had them destroyed.... at least you got to keep these. I also must advise against soliciting a sale until you reach the 25 post minimum.

Yeah, follow the rules, dude. Asking what they are worth is one thing, soliciting a sale outside the flea market and against flea market rules--> not cool.

I'd cut him some slack. He wasn't really posting them for sale, merely asking what a fair price would be. Where better to ask than here? At least he didn't run up 25 useless posts and then put them on the FM. Oh and he also used punctuation and could spell too, very refreshing.

My bad on lurching into a "selling" mode on this post. I am just more curious than anything at this point if they have good value, if there might be some collectible value in the future or anything else that may help me decide on them. Like I said I love them, and would probably have sellers remorse if I did move them.

I'd also say keep them. Very nice speakers and hard to beat in there price point.

Is it just me or do these speakers not have the bottom end oomph that I think they would have. DO not get me wrong, they reproduce sound exactly as they should, almost too perfectly, but I have never really felt like they have impressed me in terms of big bass sounds on hard rock music.

You're not supposed to toe them in, so I don't know if that might impact what you are experiencing or not. I've heard they do better in a big room, too, FWIW.

Make sure there are no air leaks(loose drivers) and place the speakers near the rear wall. As long as you have a decent amp driving them, low end shouldn't be a problem.

I am driving them with a Marantz sr 8200 I think. It is rated at 100 + watts for 7 channels. It's just my surround receiver. I know these things like power, but they seem to have less bottom end than my mordaunt short separates with subwoofer. I have followed from day one the mfg. specs for placement.

That's your problem right there.

Your Mordaunt Short's may sound better since they don't need as much current.

There is your problem. A watt is not a watt is not a watt. A receiver is like a car head unit compared to an actual amp. Top it off you are trying to drive 12 drivers per cabinet with it. If they are the original SRS's then they are 4 ohms. Your receiver will fall flat on it's face just like nearly any other receiver out there;)

Thanks guys for the good info. I used to drive it with a much larger amp and I still didn't notice that it would wow me with it's low end. THese deserve to be in a dedicated home music only system and that's the quandry that I'm in. Any good ideas on amps, receivers that would drive this that offer good bang for the buck, either new or used?

Depending on your budget I'd do atleast a Adcom 555. Some on here use Carver with great results. It's a Carver in the for sale section that'll go good with your SRS. The more power the better.

I drive my 2.3's with a Carver M1.5t and it does the job. Check out ebay (got mine for 385 just before Xmas on the bay) or the classified section of this forum.

Adcom GFA-555 is a good way to start with SDA's. It's 325wpc at 4ohms and stable to 2ohms stereo. Also keep them close to the back wall for good bass. Around 6 inches is best. Do not toe them in.

Like anything else, it's about what you're driving them with. As others said, the bass will get better with more power. This can go from just good to subwoofer class bass depending on source, pre, cables and amp. My 1Cs aren't in the same bass class as your SRS, but when I go 2 channel, a dedicated 2 channel pre and my Carver TFM45, the bass is precise, impactful and slams. If I use my main HT pre/pro (AVR) and don't use the sub, they are not nearly as impressive, even using the amp in direct mode.

They can really put it out with the right front end.

No, not too bad a spankin'. My point is that it was more inquiry than sales. A grip of the english language and punctuation was enough for me to cut him slack.

Hey Ron, long time no see! (I bought your RT800s over 2 years ago and just got back on the forums recently). I thought you had 1.2TLs? Did you downsize or was it just my imagination that you demoed those for me way back when? The combo of speakers and all those Carver amps shook my fillings loose, speaking of proper power and bass output.

One thought comes to mind on the bass situation....make sure that you don't have air leaks anywhere. When you press in gently on the pass. radiator and hold it in, the 6.5 drivers should all extend towards you and then slowly retact to their resting position. If that doesn't happen, you've probably got air leaking somewhere and the PRs wont produce the bass that they should. Good luck !:)

I can only stare with awe and wonder at someone who has the option of selling their SDA SRS'. I personally have never felt the indecision and heart wrenching roller coaster of emotions it must involve.
Someday I may, but not right now.
My advice is to hold on to them and enjoy them.
If, after all options at fixing their flaws still leaves you wanting more, and you want to cut your losses please keep me in mind.

I think you've got me confused with someone else...maybe trubluluc. He had some speakers for sale a couple of years ago and a couple of pairs of 1.2tls. I bought my 1Cs from him. I've never owned RT800is. Anyway, I know of you from Steve (Polk65), but we haven't met.

I also live in a small dwelling and space won't do them justice.
However my problem was the bass was so overpowering I couldn't get my tunes to balance out.
Keep them if you possibly can. Most likely you'll end up living somewhere with the proper space to "let them breathe" and to appreciate these.
My initial thoughts on your lack of bass is the Marantz lacks the balls to drive them properly OR...you have air leaks somewhere around the drivers or in the cabinetry.
Take a screwdriver (not powered) and make sure all the screws are tight. If you still may have air leaks you can use a light rope caulk or similar product to seal them. Sealing the speakers properly helps tremendously.
Best of luck and look at the bright side of divorce. Now you can set up a killer man cave.

There's your problem...........poor amplification. A receiver will never do any SDA any justice as you'll never realize the full potential they are capable of.

Geez guys,

this is more information than I could have hoped for. I need better amplification, check my placement, and make sure there are no air leaks. Great simple stuff. Good perspective on the divorce/man cave opportunities too. I'll check the other forums to see how guys are upgrading these as well for some time in the future.
