LSi setup question

Just a question (I am new to Polk):

I have a new set of LSi15s hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V663 "pre-amp" and a parasound 2125 ("gain" is at 80%). Sound is amazing by the way, but I do find that I am turning up the dB (from I-pod or XM or movies) more than expected. I am used to an old tuner and friends' tuners comfortably being in the (-) 25-15dB range for mod to loud sound response but I am noticing that I am in the (-) 15-5 range to get a comparable "loudness" with my set up. There is no distortion but why am I requiring this upper range of dB. Any issues I should be concerned about or any other suggestions? Is this a reasonable set up for the LSi15s?

Thanks
Tony

My 25's do the same thing.....when I first hooked them up last month, I noticed that I had to turn the volume up more than expected to get the best gains

Is there a reason why you've set the gain to 80%? Most people who have amps with gain knobs set the gain to max. Or so I seem to recall from various posts on this forum.

Congrats on the speakers. I have 9s and like them a lot, but 15s are my aspiration.

I remembered reading that having a little overhead with the AMP (slightly lower gain setting) is a good thing but let me know if this is improper thinking. Even with it turned up to 100% there is only modest gain in "volume" / dB.
