Attention All Tyler Acoustics Owners

After some experimenting with my Super Towers - I felt something was missing. I had them tilted forwards due to the tweeter height and felt this was ok. Then I tried flat and didn't really like that at all....
So I tried the same placement I had my 7u's -- and for reason this works perfect...
I encourage all owners to take out the back spikes from your speakers or stands and put a CD case in its place. This seems to give the speakers the proper tilt for some type of time alignment.
Immediately when reverting back to this tilt, my staging doubled in width and my clarity went through the roof. Just like on my 7u...
So I would be interested in hearing other results using this method.

I sit on the floor sometimes between my SDA's. It raises and widens the sound stage.Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Trey, how far up from the floor are your tweeters on the Super's? I currently have my Tyler's at about a 2-3 degree tilt back but I am still using the spikes.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Yeah, something about the tweeter height...
I dont know --- right now, I have SDA like width staging in my 10.5x10.5 room - and that is pretty impressive considering my speakers are 1 ft away from the walls. It is really hard to get good width in this room....
But listening to Audioslave right now -- guitars and bassist are in the other rooms... very nice improvement- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
The Super towers tweeter was a good 3 inches higher than the 7u...
But this placement also worked PERFECT for the 7u - there is no comparison. I highly recomend it - if you look at it - the tweeter and midbass directly below it are almost in a perfect time alignment --- it brings it together for sure...
Just remove those back spikes and set the base on a normal CD case laying flat.. you will see...
But it could just be my room and sitting distance - but thats why I want other people to try it!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Also like to mention my speakers sit on a platform - so if you have carpet this obviously wont work quite the same...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I was thinking of getting one of those rocking video game chairs for critical listening.

Yeah, I'm on carpet but I'll give it a whirl anyway.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

Gathering in all of the pretty sights! Just kickin it, lil' bro. Gettin' ready to disturb my new neighbors;)
-
That reminds me. Before you get rid of that Shanling, do you still have those tubes?
-
The real nice ones? No - I sold those to Brad after a month of owning them. I found the Analog stage to have the same performance...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Interesting tweak. My signature system weighs a ton and would likely crush a cd case. Perhaps something stronger could work like a book. I'm too lazy to try it right now though. Definitely will try it soon though. Mine sit on a wood floor.
I'm not sure I understand how this slight tilt would make the tweeters in perfect time allignment, but will try it anyways. I got nothing to lose and possibly something to gain. -
time alignment is where all voice coils are aligned...
If you note Polks RTA series with the recessed tweeter --- this is to achieve the effect, but properly.
When you tilt back the Tylers -- if you were to take a straight stick and align it with the tweeter VC and the woofer VC, the one directly below it is aligned pretty darn close to perfect...
You see alot of manufactures time aligning drivers this way (Avalon Acoustics being one) --- the difference is pretty substantial.
You should be ok with the CD case, my speakers weigh 120 pounds a piece and are not anywhere close to breaking the CD case.
Let me know what you think!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Ok, so I tried it. I'm not sure if I could tell anything. It didn't seem like a night and day difference. Maybe something subtle. So subtle that I can't tell if I like it better or worse. I'll keep the cd in there for a bit to see if more time will help.
Anybody else want to weigh in on this tweak? -
How far are you sitting away?
At Polkfest we sat about 10-15 away and had nothing under the rear of the speakers - just straight tilt back and man can attest to the brilliance of the sound we heard there...
Me sitting only 6 ft away, if I did that it would go crazy...
Give it a little more tilt... and make sure the tweeters are pointed more towards your ears.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Thiel has been doing this for years, bro.

The speaks are 8' apart and I'm sitting 13' away. The more I listen I'm noticing an improvement. More to come.... -
This is exactly why my custom speakers have a 10* slope for the mids and tweeter baffle. Btw, just because the voice coils are aligned, doesn't mean the speaker is time aligned. There's more to it than that."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Oh I know --
It definitely not time alignment, but it definitely brings it together similar to the way time alignment does. The only thing it really aligns is the tweeter with the midbass directly below it. The one above it is way out of wack...
But for some reason, on the two pairs of Tylers Ive had - this works GREAT.
It just makes it more dynamic, open, wider, musical I guess...
I like it, whatever it is.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
