Well, I just got my LSIC, so now I have LSI15 front & center. Onkyo 806 receiver.

Just wondering what you think about using monitor 50's for surrounds. I can get a pair for $100. A lot better than $700 for LSI surrounds!

100....vs.....700....hum..........

I know the LSI surrounds SHOULD sound better, but would the monitor be good for now?

Onkyo said I can run 4 ohm front and 8 ohm back......but they say a lot of things.

Until very recently, my surrounds never matched my mains. For movies it's not THAT important. I must say though, once I was able to move my LSi7's to surround duty, I was impressed...especially for concert DVD's, DVD-A, etc.

To answer your question, yes, I think it would be okay for now if you're really wanting surrounds...BUT others will wisely tell you to be patient and save for what you want especially since you can get get some used 7's for only a couple hundred bucks more.

Well, the LSi's would definitely be the best choice, but 100 vs. 700 dollars is very understandable.

You'd be able to get by with the Monitor's for the time being. Timbre matching front-back isn't anywhere near as important as having a timbre matched front stage. The LSi's would sound better, but the Monitors will work just fine as a temporary solution.

What Onkyo are you running? Any external amplification? Those LSi's really open up with an external amp, and while some of the Onkyo's are capable of running 4 ohm speakers, they're not really designed to run a full set of 4ohm speakers. Running surround channels that have an 8 ohm impedance would help take a lot of the strain off of the Onkyo.

My suggestion would be to go with the Monitor 50's, then save up for a multi-channel power amp, assuming that your AVR has pre-amp outputs. Once you've got some external amps, I'd go for the LSi's for surrounds.

I have the setup that you are considering.....using LSI15 and LSIC and monitor 50 as rears....

if i were you, I would get Monitor 50 and use that money to buy an amplifier....your onkyo 806 doesn't have enough oomph to drive the LSI speakers....
