PEORIA-- A forensic pathologist testifying in the trial of a Peoria man charged in the death of his 5-month-old son says the child died from an infection brought on by a nearly week-old dirty diaper.

James Sargent is charged with first-degree murder in the February 2008 death of Benjamin Sargent. Pathologist Scott Denton on Tuesday testified on the second day the father's trial.

Denton says that the boy's diaper went unchanged for at least five days before his death.

Prosecutors say 24-year-old James Sargent and the boy's mother, 22-year-old Tracy Hermann, left the child without food or water in a car seat for eight days. Denton says the skin on the Benjamin Sargent's back and bottom had begun to decay, causing the infection that made him lapse into a coma and die.

If this is true he should be guilty of murder. Some get accused of being internet tough guys, but dirt bags like this would not last long in my presence.

No he will be away from GP(general Pop) and be protected. I have had to dwell with some nasty scum in places I wish I had never been, but guys in jail have mostly been abused, and would beat that punk down.

I love prison morality and justice. There's some good books on the subject. Prisoners hate child molesters and killers in particular. I hope the prison warden does the right thing and puts this guy and gal in the general population.

Thats hard to hear that some dips**t would do that to a infant, Well the IQ of the Americian gene pool will go up slightly by taking these two out of the mix. Parents who have children like this should have them spayed or neutered so we can avoid this problem in the future.

Yeah, seems to be the theme of these cases. I think in cases like this a mandatory public hanging would be in order.

Those case facts make me want to cry. I can't believe they plead not guilty. Even in these moments before they are judged, they can't do the one humane thing left to do . . . to confess and take responsibility. Utterly unbelievable that they plead not guilty to basically fight for the best outcome. Can anyone be more selfish?
