Question: As I see pictures of the SDA series and McIntosh speakers I notice that not only they have multiple midrange and bass drivers but multiple tweeters as well. Yet on basically all new speakers theres only one tweeter. Why did they sometimes use multiple tweeters and now they usually only use one?

With multiple closely spaced tweeters reproducing the same frequencies there will be destructive interference effects between them called comb filtering. If for instance two tweeters were to be placed one above the other, there combined vertical dispersion pattern will be narrowed compared to using just one.In years past Snell, Kef and M&K have used a three vertical tweeter arrangement to help reduce hi frequency floor and ceiling reflections in THX HT systems.IIRC the Mac speaker has a full row of tweeters which will in efffect create a vertical line source.

One of the great surceases of the SDA2.3TL is that they mainly use just one tweeter. The others are so attenuated that they might as well not be there.
