Help: No Screen Saver on Vista

Well, my new Dell Studio 16 XPS laptop arrived Thursday. I really like it so far. Vista isn't as bad as I was expecting.

But....the screen saver doesn't seem to work anymore. I have it set to turn after1 minute (for now) but I watch a show, then commercials come one, then the show comes back on. Nothing.

I've tried turning everything off that might be "active," even turned the WiFi off. Still nothing.

I know it's LCD screen an I have no worried about burn-in or any of that crap, but this new screen is so good it's nice to see all my old pics scroll by while I have the stereo fired up.

Any ideas?

Wes

I have mine set up to do photos also and love it, no problems. I assume you've gone to personalize-screen saver, selected photos, then clicked settings and pointed it to your photos folder?

Also, to verify that you've got it all set up correctly, click preview to see if it works. If that works, something's messed up with your power management settings.

    DJ,

Another friend who is very knowledgeable told me there was a compatibility problem with the Microsoft USB wireless mice and keyboards. He pointed me to a Windows Update that should fix the problem.

Hmm, I'm using Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse with no problems. Funny that there should be a MS wireless incompatibility with there own OS

I know....but I just downloaded the update and restarted. The screen saver came on while I was finishing up my burger off my Big Green Egg. :D

What's funny is that Office 2003 has worked perfectly so far and something simple like a mouse and keyboard driver screwed things up. Oh well....

Screen savers do not much matter for LCD screens, such as that in a laptop. They mattered greatly for CRT tubes. Office 2003 worked greatl with Vista on my laptop.

The upgrade to Office 2007 works pretty good. Stay away from Wordart in the applications. They bog the computer down and will crash the application that is still up. Overall, Office 2003 is generally more stable in a Vista environment.

    A minute is pretty short.
Your power-management settings aren't overruling screensaver or something? Off the top, I'm thinking they have to coordinate with the screensaver.

I just set it to a minute to see if it would work or not and not sit around waiting for it kick on. The name of update is "HID Non-User Input Data Filter" and it solved my problem. I bumped the time back up to 10 or 15 minutes and all is good.
