Grado 60i vs 80i

Hi guys, it piqued my interest when some of the guys responding to my phone amp question mentioned the awesomeness of the Grado SR 60is.
However, a popular mod to them was changing out the ear foam pad in exchange for one that allowed more of the yummy sound through.
So, my question is: since the 80s cost about the same as an upgraded foam pad for the 60s, why not just get the 80s instead? As I understand it, the 80s have a better foam pad, which allows the yummy sound through quite well.
Help out a n00b! Give me advice, and I'll give you eleventeen cents! Or, maybe just a thanks. You never know, it's a grab bag of fun! You take your chances either way. Void where prohibited. Not available in the Iran, UAE, or the island off of Patmos.
If I am mistaken on my reasoning, or you have a different option, please let me know. There are so many doggone choices, I am just trying to narrow them down at the moment.
My overall plan is to start my foray into phones with the grados. Then, I want to buy a DIY kit for a headphone amp. I am looking at the S-5 Electronics DIY Tube Amplifier Kits from DIY Audio Products.
What do you think?
I am also looking at the options that you all kindly offered on my original headphone amp thread. I am jonesin' to do it myself though. That desire was spawned in the CP stream! Thanks for that guys. I actually spent a little chunk o' change on a nice soldering/ rework station. If you are curious, it's the Aoyue 968 SMD Digital Hot Air Rework Station. Now that I think of it, if any of you have any scrap boards that I could buy, please let me know.
Thanks for all of your help!
Matt
P.S. I would have asked at headfi, or somewhere that specializes in phones, but I have grown attached to you big lugs here already! Call me crazy, I know.;)

The 60 is nice, get bigger pads....although, if the price is good, upgrade. Sonically, there won't be a huge difference.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
