Dayumm!! I just saw a program on Animal Planet that showed a population explosion of the wild pigs all over the south! To make matters even worse, some brilliant folks imported some bigger, meaner SOBs from Russia that are now mating with our domestic ones. They showed where people were mauled in their driveways & living rooms, and a lot of this is going on in the Carolinas and Georgia! Be xtra careful and carry a big "firestick" ! P.S. they can reach speeds of 30mph !

Time to import a few of the wolves from out west & bring them there. They will have plenty to eat & help solve the problem to boot!Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

Just Gators and Palmetto bugs the size of Boars here.
-
They are a serious problem here in central CA ...for so many reasons.
I quit big game hunting about 10 years ago, but my friends and ex-clients that own farms/property know I am still up for a pig hunt anytime. The pigs destroy any area they inhabit, and around here they are everywhere.
Also, its been 2 years since I have ridden my quad at the off road park....but when I was going twice a week...a day of riding couldnt go by without at least one pig almost taking you out on a trail. One time a sow came on the trail in front of me...and behind me her piglets showed up...she was pissed..I gassed it slowly and nudged her off the trail.
It's gotten so dangerous at the park that there are warning signs at the front office now as well as on their website...you hit one at speed and its game over. Here is a shot off of the newspaper reporting on the problem....

Free bacon. Why are you complaining?
-
No problems here in the flatlands of NC. I hear they are a problem more towards the mountains. Heard they are quite nasty when threatened.
I like bacon, too. -

I live in the foothills of NC, and never saw a wild boar. Lots of wild ****.
Seriously though, coyotes are becoming a major problem in these parts which is unheard of. -

I saw the show the OP was referring to. Were talking 400-500+ lb Russian wild boars...more than a match for all but a very large wolf pack.
The european boar that are around here don't get anywhere near that big but they think some have imported the Russian boars that are now breeding with the euros and there is some evidence they can get as big or bigger than the Russian ones because of the milder climate and few predators. I know they are working to eradicate the boar out of the Smokey Mtns. here in ET. They are destructive as hell and just as mean."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

I refuse to die via wild pig....bring it.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Some folks make a sport out of hunting the boars using only a spear. Get the boar to charge then stake the spear in the ground and let him run up on it.
Personally, I carry a .357 Security Six when I am on my property out in the country. There are coyotes, black bear, cougars, and boars out there somewhere. Some folks have gone into the woods, never to be seen again.>

mewise, I wouldn't be too sure if I were you, the pro hunters have trained and armored pit bull terriers that they set on the boar approx. 4 or 5 at a time. They lose dogs on a regular basis and a lot more are seriously injured. I hope your dogs never have to face those beasts. -
:eek::eek: alrighty then! On second thought although I don't much like the thought of it, maybe it's time for some hunters to go huntin!

I have friends that have dogs that keep the hogs busy while the guy knifes them. Me personally would use my .44 mag. So when are you going to come over? I'm looking for a big booty cougar !!!!!!! -
I have lived, worked and traveled in the south for about two decades and I have yet to see one of these. What's funny is you live in MD and get this kind of news and I live down here and haven't heard a peep.
Maybe it's the Southern way of keeping you Yankees up North. ~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Coyotes are a problem here. So much in this area I have not seen a rabbit in 2 years around the house. When we moved in we had them everywhere and they would drive my dog nuts. They would set on the deck infront of the patio doors and just look in and watch the dog go nuts. I got a remedy for my coyotes.mains: rt16

These good ol' boys had some fun just outside of town here. -

It's a little leaner and a little chewier. On the farms they fatten them up and they don't get to run as much. Other than that, it tastes just like farm raised. -
Wild boar is the best eating of the hunted animals.engtaz
I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
Also, if you are hunting for food....you really only want to pick the younger smaller pigs. The really large boars can be pretty tough, anything male or female a 100 or so pounds or under is damn fine eating.
Another fact, if you are hunting for food....you really need to gut the animal and get the core temp down immediately as pork will go bad much faster in the field then say deer or elk.
A young 100 pounder treated right in the field, is freaking awesome...bout the only better meat I have tried was pronghorn antelope. The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club -
I live in Florida they do get that big. LOLengtaz

Are you saying that there is no cable or satelite TV available where you are? This was broadcast on the Animal Planet channel !!

Last time I checked...Maryland IS a southern state, in fact, delineating the Mason-Dixon line ! We even say "youall" instead of "youse" -
Wild boars are so much tastier then pigs, less fat and more filling. Out of curiosity, why is that geographic location considered the south? What is Texas then? Just wondering.
