I saw this last week; sorta bizarre. The effects & last half of the movie are excellent, but the "human" actors just sucked.

I thought the lead was pretty good.

hmm this movie looked interesting from the previews, and from what I heard it wasn't too bad but was different than what people were expecting. With what some are saying I think I may just have to rent it after the holidays.

    Hi,
Well, it's directed by Peter Jackson so you can only expect the best :)
It's definitely a new twist on alien "invasion" movies so at the moment it's kind of hard to compare it to anything else. I expect it to have somewhat of the same impact that Independence day had on its original audience. Like I said though, considering that this is a completely new type of alien movie, it's gonna be a hit or miss.

I picked it up on Blu Ray and I didn't like it. it was not as good as I expected it to be. The previews were so much better then the actual movie.

Anyone want the copy of it on Blu ray 20 bucks shipped. I paid full sticker for it.

Kinda sucked but will agree it was different. Expected more from Jackson with this attempt. Would not recommend this garbage and too bad because the story line had merit.

Rented it from blockbuster yesterday and watched about 45 minutes or so. Had to turn it off as it wasn't for me. Don't think I'll finish it.

No, it was only produced by Peter Jackson. Neill Blomkamp directed it, and it was based on Blomkamp's short film Alive In Joburg.

I think if he had been a little more heavy-handed with the first half of the movie (i.e. removing some of the humor and playing it more straight like the short film does), it would have been a better movie. Still, it's a fantastic BD with an insane lossless track that'll put a smile on your face if you can crank the volume up.

I watched tonight and appreciate that the director and/or writer wanted to produce something different...and they did. I felt the protagonist gave a subtle performance, but the character was totally annoying...sometime his SA accent was incomprehensible...I did pickup fook yu alot. I liked the dark humor and wish there was more and funnier...the social commentary was realistic, but then again, I'm not a big message guy...just entertain me. It did...could have been tweaked more to my liking, but it was fresh.

I wish Hollywood would dump all the "big name" actors and go with "no names" for all the films, makes the movie going experience so much better. No Tom Hanks, not Brad Pitt...and so on.

Because there's nothing better than watching people with no talent, right? Going with no name actors tends to result in dreadful B movie crap. However, when it works....it really works. Those actors usually go on to get a name for themselves with that breakout role and they go on to better things.

There are lots of "stars" who don't deserve their status, but even with as much attention as someone like Brad Pitt gets because the ladies love him, that guy is a pretty damn good actor. Se7en is one of my favorite movies and he does a great job in that one as well as so many others.
