An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion

Well people I am so sick of the latest batch of trolls here on the forum stinking up threads just to... well read the Wiki above.
DK has spent a lot of time here reviewing, and studying why he has found his results. These threads are looked back to as a reference continuously. A lot of other members who have invested much time into welcoming newbs and helping them are being trolled constantly. I can't believe the lack of character from some of these characters. I have never reported any users till just recently. With what has been going on I ask you kindly to help clean the forum. There is a huge difference in disagreeing with someone and just pissing all over the place.
Please report trolls and clean this place up. The squeaky wheel is the one that gets oiled.
Thanks much.
Ben
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks
Ben

Well, as most know I generally stay clear of the controversy and spend my time here having fun, cutting up, agravating my friends about tubes, and helping out a new guy where I can.

However, I will say that after taking a business trip for two weeks and then coming back to the forum it was pretty clear we had a rash of folks with agenda's, that frankly popped my cork. They generally out themselves with references to other forums and so on.

They need attention, positive or negative it does not matter, just attention. Over the years here I have found they generally dry up and leave on their own as they never assimilate into the club nor do they really want to, a few become so obnoxious they get banned. In the end they really dont matter and it is best to just leave them to the mods. But I understand sometimes you just cant and its scorched earth time.

I think it is important though to remember its only a few and we need to welcome the new guys who really are seeking help.

    Well said Ted. Well said.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Cathy said it best that we need to protect the new folks from the trolls so putting them on the ignore list is not a good idea.

I've tried to refrain from getting into the fray and have been posting less becaue I find myself getting twisted up over all the BS caused by the trolls. I've reported a few and wrote a PM to our mod which I normally would never do but like Ben and most others here, I am fed up with the few trolls that have disrupted and are trying to crap up our wonderful club.

Speaking as a newbie here, I love CP, I rarely if at all visit any of my hangs outs such as AVSforum and hometheatershack.

I have learned so much and owe so many of you for helping me to improve the SQ of my system.

One of my favorite sayings is Don't let the a$$holes win.

Thanks to all of you that have been here for awhile for a place that is truely something special. When I see the karma's and people GIVING others what they need it just amazes me and is infectious.

Also, there are some great noobs that are great as well.

    THANK YOU ALL !

I think the thread started by the guy that posted a FS item in the WTB section (Magic Power, or something), on his first post, no less, has been deleted.

The silent control maintained by the mod(s) on CP really seems quite excellent IMO.

The trashing of someones thread who is tring to sell something gets under my skin the most, I am talking about people that seem like stand up guys here tring to sell something that is. a lot of the other crap for the most part i just move on. I am here to learn and maybe help someone out with what little i have learned. I like it here.

It is easy sometimes to get caught up in the crap, I am sure i have a time or two. and i hope if and when i seem out of line that i am called on it. I really enjoy my new hobby in audio and hope to learn more from you guys. I really do appreciate the help and ideas i get here on CP.

    Larry.

Yea, but you are a likable troll. More like that Travelocity elf that finds all of those cool travel deals, but suffer **** on TV when checking them out! (my favorite was when he went cliff diving in Mexico).

George you CAN'T leave. Without your brilliant sense of humor around to crack me up everytime I would be miserable!:(

We seem to go through this about once a year, things will even out eventually. And none of the new crop of jerks is as bad as couple of the jerks who were banned last year finally!

If we can ignore most of their posts & only jump in when they are trying to lead a newbie down a disasterous road, they should dry up & die on their own.

As someone said, they are simply attention whores, if we stop giving it to them they will have to find another outlet for their immaturity.

as most here know trolling on threads is exactly the same as trolling for fish.....what do you do when none bite? YOU MOVE............

same as internet trolling............the troll will only stay if people reply.....no replies then its off to another to new fishing grounds ;)

Maybe a thread id potential trolls............have used this on other boards and it does work...no attention given and off they go to better fishing grounds

Absolutely agreed. This forum has been invaluable for my own learning and I hate to see it trashed up by some people. I generally like to stay out of any altercations, but like was said above, if someone is being misleading or leading others down the wrong path, we have to set them straight. The recent series of people trying to rip off others in the FS area has really gotten me bad. I always found great deals here thanks to the guys that have made this forum what it is, and I try to do the same for others. Having guys come here trying to rip off our beloved forum puts a pitchfork and torch in my hands.

Sherard, you're invaluable as our Far East correspondent. HTF would we know what's going on over there without your reports?

I guess I should say that as far as "long-winded" older members, I certainly don't mean members like Raife (DK), who provides us with regular reports on his research. Show me someone who is more hard-core than Raife about this hobby. You can't.

It is long passed when the post-Christmas season should've petered out (historically), so I don't think this will rectify itself as it has done in the past. The gutter stuff from mid-level individuals is garbage too. Who needs it? I wouldn't bring an open garbage pail into my living room, why would I want to bring some of this stuff in?

There's a saying, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem".

With that in mind, .......... :o ........ uhm ....... well ...... no matter how out in left field a new noob is, one shouldn't get down in the dirt and wrestle with a pig, 'cause even if you "win", you wind up smelling like a pig.

It's better to take the high road, and making "momma" references is a pretty good sign one isn't taking the high road. :o

I hope everyone doesn't mind while I lecture myself .....

There is an "Ignore" feature to be sure, but there is the problem of some folks giving out atrocious advice unchecked; "Soak those surrounds in ArmorAll", etc. Somebody has to correct that sort of information (without making previously mentioned "momma" references :o).

So, even though this post-Christmas season appears to be extended (Global Warming ?), it'll get better so I hope you old grampers on here hang in there; you're needed, you're appreciated, and you help to keep CP what it is (or should be).
