My son's school closed for swine flu case

My son John and I live in British Columbia in Canada. He came home from elementary school today everything normal. About 10 minutes after he's home I get an email and then a phone call stating that the school is closed for a week due to a confirmed case of swine flu in a student. The student was in school for several days with symptons after having travelled in Mexico. The children and teachers are being asked to stay away from any public places or gatherings for a week. He's in grade 7 and pretty self sufficient so my going to work will be ok but this does bring this whole swine flu thing home. I'm only mildly worried but still it is a little scary. He and I just had the flu really bad in late February. That was pretty nasty just being the "normal" seasonal flu.

Keep the faith all will be ok.

Check with the local hospitals, health care, etc. and see if there are other "suspected" or "confirmed"cases in the area. Not sure what to make of any vaccines available, getting a lot of do this, don't do this from the media outlets.
Just keep an eye on each other.

I was thinking the same thing. But we have lots of stupid people running around and unfortunatly they mated.

If you just got over it, I would think that you would be less susceptible, but I'm far from the medical type.

The genetics of the swine flu virus are much different from the regular flu, which is why the vaccinations for regular flu won't work for it and which is also why just having regular flu won't help you.

But you should be OK. An article someone else posted here talked about how you needed sustained contact with an infected person and it's unlikely you'd get it from touching a door knob or something like that.

There are medications like Tamiflu that will work for this flu virus, but this is not a vaccination, and it has to be taken in certain time period after onset, I believe.

I don't think you're "fine". I hope you and John don't ever get near Swine Flu, but that's likely to happen a lot sooner than me thinking you're "fine".
