one of my mw6511's has started making a popping sound when listening at higher volumes. I first noted this condition before I started driving my speakers with an external amp, if fact I got an amp for this reason. It has continued to deteriorate since. I want to stay with the factory style 'tacky" drivers, so going with a replacement is out of the question. Does anyone have a way of repairing these drivers or know of someone that can? Perhaps someone has an extra?

Thanks as always

John

Polk Audio CS-1 Center Channel (making own center from vintage mw6511's and RDO-194) already has one.

lol... I wish I had the three I need. I had no idea they were so hard to get. I had a far easier time getting to third base on a first date. Jesse says just get the replacements, but others like me want to hold out for the originals. is there a performance difference betwen replacements and originals? If not, I will use them for the center, but still prefer old school for the SDA's

Not much you can do once you've "popped". I'm not sure exactly what is damaged in the driver but those years of running it high with improper power have caused permanent damage. It needs to be replaced either with a new one from Polk or a used one.
