For those of you that have upgraded you SDA's.

Should i just buy the RDO194's and be done with it?

Or should i just go with the RDO198's and upgrade the xovers? or stick with the RDO194's and upgrade the xovers? and if i go with upgrading the xovers can anyone please help me with what i would need to order to do this?

What would i really gain by doing the upgrade to the xovers?

I do know that i will change out the tweeters. Would just like some input or ideas on what direction would be best.

As soon as i am done with this part of my project i will look into what i want to power them.

Thanks,

Larry.

I'd go with the RDO-198 with a upgraded XO. I plan on doing this to my 2.3tl in the future. For now I'm enjoying them in there original form.

Have you been able to listen to them yet?

The RD0198-1 tweeter is the better sounding of the two, but to use them in your speakers would require reworking the high frequency circuit. If you can read a schematic and solder, it shouldn't be a big deal. If you can't, perhaps you could find someone like Ben to do it for you.

A much better sounding set of speakers.

Yes i have, I love them. With my SDA 2's i changed out the tweeter's with the RDO194's had no choice as the last owner had put a boston Acoustics tweeter in one speaker, WTH he was thinking i will never know. just about done refurbing those. Don't think i will redo the xovers though.

Thanks F1. I do a fair amount of rework on XO for Polkies on the cheap. Anyone is welcome to hit me up via email on upgrades. I am not out to make a living off of Polkies, but love to share what I know.
    thanks

OK TFL please expound on your thoughts. I do love Adcom's for the price, and I have heard EMO's in the same system. I will not say anything, but please tell me what you have heard.
    Thanks much.

Ok, do you mean what brand or what values?

The schematics for the 1.2 and the 1.2TL are posted here, just compare one with the other and you'll see what needs to be changed and the values needed. Choices in caps are vast, everything from the uber expensive Duelund's to the dirt cheap Solen's. Lots of folks are happy using Sonicap's. For the resisitors, Mills makes nice ones.

    Ben

I found that the clarity with the 555II on the highs was much better, i like my XPA-3 i think it does a fine job. i just found that the clarity in the vocals was better with the adcom. these are the only 2 amps i have got to demo in my own home. I did get to hear a couple of rotels at listen up, and i really loved them. with that said i wish i could hear them with the SDA's in my home.

The swap doesn't appear difficult. If you don't feel that you're up to it, Ben or someone else here could help you out. As for which components to install, use the best your budget will allow.

    Do them up right.
