I kick **** at my job. My work is done quickly and accurately. And, so I'm rewarded with more work? I get that done. And, I'm given more work. So now I'm still at work, and everyone who gets lower partner ratings has gone home. Something is wrong here?

I know the feeling...I run a tree care service with my dad and my brother. We've been doing it for about 4 years now. During the summer I usually work about 36 hours a day, 9 days a week, and even when I'm not working, I'm still working.:p All that damn equipment isn't going to maintain itself unfortunately.

Where are you at when you're working? In a nice air conditioned building? Quit complaining...lol...You haven't worked until you've spent a day climbing a tree with a rope and harness, trimming dead branches out, in the middle of August when it's 110 degrees with the sun beating down on you all day long...lol I'd also like to add, that the humidity level in the crown of a tree is roughly 50% higher than the ambient air around the tree. That makes it even better.

The fact that you're getting extra work piled up, is a testament to the fact that you're a good worker though. Stick with it, and someday you'll be the guy piling the extra work on the new guys desk. You've got that to look forward to.;)

    How true.

Take all of the Union construction workers you see on the highway. There's usually 2-3 people doing all the work, and 8 people "supervising" from behind their coffee cups.

Um,those 8 people standing around with coffee cups....2 might be union,as in owners, management, etc, the others are your tax dollars hard at work,as in state officials, inspectors, and so on.Most union workers are hard working guys and gals and you'd be hard pressed to put up with the work load under some extreme conditions, and not get anyone killed.I'm really not that much of a union fan boy,but I do respect hard work.Lately, between our presidents favor for unions, and the money grubbing unions themselves, are really pissing me off to the point I may start advocateing against them.Thats a whole nutha subject, but don't belittle the hard work of these people, please.

I hear ya bro. You may like to know that the UAW and CAW just lost the right to strike against Chrysler for 6 years. A UAW site I frequent said it was the darkest day in union history. :D

It may have been up until now. The new darkest day will be tomorrow (or whenever) when Chrysler files bankruptcy and Fiat simply buys all the assets and puts whomever they like in those jobs. If GM follows suit...the UAW will pretty much cease to exist.

Ya know shack,I hope that is the case, but the unions hold too much sway over the Prez.GM is laying off over 20,000,not to mention the loss of jobs from dealerships around the country, and they still are keeping the union intact, what does that tell ya? The unions have become too political, too powerfull, and are no longer interested in a working relationship with owners of these companies.Yes,the UAW has made consesions, but after how long of gouging the auto companies? To me,both parties, the car companies, and the unions, made their bed along time ago,now they have to sleep in it without my taxpayer coin....I wish.

My apologies to the OP,didn't intend to derail ya bro,but hey,I'm 50,cut me alittle slack.:)

The unions have no say in a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. The assets are sold and the new owners have no obligation to honor ANY contract since they become null and void upon liquidation.

Under the usuall rules, yes, your correct, but you can do a restructered bankruptcy that allows union contracts to stay intact. Also, keep in mind, the rules of the game will change with how much pressure the government feels.

That is only for a Chapter 11...and that is not going happen with Chrysler. Either they survive or liquidate. The current junk bond holders evidently are not willing to take the swap debt for equity deal to merge with Fiat as a going concern...so liquidation seems to be the only option. Bye, bye Chrysler UAW members if that happens.

The CEO of Fiat warned the CAW about the bamkruptcy being inevitable. The CAW has been the most reluctant to make any changes. The bond holders recoup 100% of their investments in a chapter 11, as oppsed to the 10-30% they have been offered, so they want the Chap.11. It is actually good in the long run if the UAW owns the company. They cannot strike against themselves. An equal balance will emerge if they survive as a parasite cannot feed off themselves...

From everything I've read they will file 11 and may move it to a 7 because they simply can't generate enough sales to put together any kind of plan without Fiat. Fiat may choose to wait out the bankruptcy and pick and choose the pieces it wants if they don't get ALL the concessions they want in the reorganization (ie; unions).

They pretty much had Fiat and the unions on board, it was the 4 out of 46 lenders that held it up. Fiat cherry picking the pieces post c7 was discussed. It was thought of as unlikely as Fiat wants the dealer base that will collapse in a C7.

I don't see where the confusion is. You do a good job and take pride in it, it seems. Your ratings ARE higher. You, Mr Squal, Esq, are what make this country great!! Keep up the good work. Karma will be yours in the end.

I see it, too, in my profession, but I think that not all lawyers are necessarily that bright, or personable, etc. To get through all that schooling you must be good at school, but that doesn't always translate into the intangibles that will make you successful. And, alas, the work ethic does not permeate through the entire work force, unfortunately. You are doing the right things, though.

Not going to happen eh?? Turn on the news Shack baby, they just filed chapter 11,and guess who's stayin'? The unions of coarse, minus some more concessions though. Add to that 9 billion in government loans,Dahlmer bowing out,Gmac will do the financing of new cars now,Government backed warrenties, even Canada has a hand in it.

Funny,I listened to obama talk about it and had to laugh.Chrysler has roughly 50,000 employee's,announced it will lay off over 20,000,and Obama see's this as saveing 30,000.Thats like saying 4,000 of our troops died in Iraq, but we saved millions of lives. Then he took a shot at the hedge funds who hold 9 billion in debt from chrysler. The feds offered them .29 cents on the dollar and they said no.I guess if you loan me 100 bucks and I give you 29 bucks back,we are square, good for you?? Well, sacrifices have to be made, according to the Prez, little did anyone know.....

Many people much smarter than me don't think a chapter 11 will get it done. To much debt and not enough revenues to make a plan work. If the debtors think a liquidation is better for them, they can certainly force that issue in the bankruptcy court. The normal course in bankruptcy is to try a reorganization and see if they can get all the debtors on board. The SECURED lenders have the right to petition the court and take possesion of the collateral unless Chrysler is able to convince them that the plan is in their best interest. Often after a few weeks/months of negotiations they will move from 11 to 7. There are many that think that is what will happen here. Only time will tell.

Fiat is the key here. If they get into the negotiations and see it is going nowhere and pull out...7 is the only option.

Thats still a possibility, but you'd think alot of these negotiations are pre determined before going on national TV and announcing you saved Chrysler.Alot of the debt has been forgiven, and the hedge funds said no way, which pissed of the Prez,so we'll see how that works out in court. My guess is,the process will take longer than 60 days and we will have to throw billions more at them to keep the doors open untill the legal eagles work it out.

It's 10:43 P.M. I just finished up for the day and am in a hotel room. I find balance with my personal and professional lives too. Yesterday, I was posting to CP during the afternoon after getting home from business in Chicago.

If your employer wants more of your life than you want, then A) find balance, B) take your clients to another more amenable employer or C) start your own practice.

No sympathy here. I make a good buck with what I do and I bet you do too. I have found balance and flexibility with my employer and my personal life. You need to do this too.

Hehe, not looking for sympathy. Reality is just funny sometimes. I love what I do and the work is rewarding. It's strange however that the people who need to achieve more don't make time to do so.
