Phase linear lamps

Hi, I am a first time poster. I have a Phase Linear 400 amp that I use in my studio. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder because this amp is working great for last 15 years. My problem is that the lamps for the vu meters are burnt out. I pulled the meter pc board and there are no specs on the board. I used a magnifying glass to see if there were any codes on the lamps and there were none. I ran a multimeter across the circuit and got a reading of 5.3volts ac. But because the lamps are all burnt out I can't get a load reading to calculate the watts. I just downloaded the schematics from Musicparts.com and although they are fairly complete, any information in regards to the lamps and vu meters in missing. Is there anyone out there who may know what the voltage and wattage is I need for replacement lamps, or substitue lamps. I hate to keep downloading schematics to no avail. Thanks Dennis

    I can't answer the question except to say that I've seen this amp in my local pawn shop...looked it up. It's a Carver design, but seems to have been mostly used for studio and live performances...where it supposedly often flamed out, literally catching fire. Don't those amps date to the mid-late 70s? The local one, I've considered picking up at some point and having someone tweak it also has the problem you described.

    Maybe someone knows a bit more about this. What speakers are you running off that.
