CS350LS vs. CS400i

As several of you know, I picked up a CS400i the other day in anticipation of setting up 6.1. I already own a CS350LS. I decided to let the center channels battle it out for the prized spot on top of my TV. The loser gets back surround responsibility. If there was a close tie, the nod would go to the 350 as it is a hands down better looking speaker. I hooked both speakers up to my front mains and dropped Steve Cole's latest jazz CD into the player and compared by flipping the balance from left to right. The hands down winner was the 400! Even though the Polk website specs show these speakers having the same response, the 400 had significantly more bass. The highs and mids were very similar, but the additional lows pumped out by the 400 won it the prized front and center location. Even over the wife's objections!

Excellent review, Walter. Did you have the "mono" swich enabled to ensure an equal signal balance to both speakers?"What we do in life echoes in eternity"

I have followed the threads leading up to your analysis and can say that I'm not at all surprised. Polk really did a great job designing the 400i! Impressive for both music and HT plus IMHO it is a nice looking speaker.

Standing the 400 on end would go over like a ton o' bricks. The wife already said "You're not going to leave that on the tv, are you?" "Well, honey, I just need to trial run it for awhile";) -

Nah. Ran it in stereo. Didn't that mixing thing go out with the beatles?
