Considering that, on average 36,000 people die of a flu virus every year, this Swine flu is nothing new, it's just a new strain, something we see every year. It's sad it's being so blown out of proportion in the media.

The government has asked us to avoid saying "swine flu", it seems to offend the pigs. Remember the government is here to help.

    That's fine.

However, let me ask you this: wouldn't you be worried if you live right down the road?

what about the bird flu from a few years ago? you never hear about that anymore.

or how about Hanta Virus? Mad cow anyone?

I think it's being overblown.. not that it's not serious.. but panic is about to set in any minute now.. there will be a rush on those face masks this week.. people will start stocking up on water, food, and cash.

People will keep their kids out of school for a week or so... pandemic? more like panic-demic if you ask me.

Not really. The last 'outbreak' of swine flu in the US was in 1975-1976, when, of all the sick, there was one not-quite-confirmed death. Millions were inoculated without anything resembling informed consent, and the vaccine killed over 50 and injured many times that. Back then, Good old Rummy was at the fore demanding that the great unwashed all get shots. . . Now he owns the rights to the "cure", and it's back again. . . go figure.

But not every year does flu become a global pandemic like the Spanish flue of 1918 which killed 50 million people.
The main cause for concern is that both the spanish virus and the swine virus are of the of the H1N1 subtype, and probably both originated in animals.
..... and yes ... it is way to early to panic.

sure enough... those face masks are all sold out all over town now.. ;)

I called it. now comes more panic, and then stock piling food, water and CASH!

my doctor put it into perspective.. it's the FLU... you take the same course for swine flu to get over it as you do the same flu that hits us every year.

In other words, you should already have food, water, and cash on hand not to mention your B.O.B. (bug out bag) in case of pandemics and other natural and unnatural disasters such as getting snowed in, blackouts, flooding, hurricanes, tornados, riots, ufo, zombie attacks, 2012, etc.

Don't look at me. I'm not prepared. :D

Thats what I keep talking about. Not that it can't become very serious, but at one point in time bird flu was going to kill us all.

I get asked about once every 10 minutes for face masks, Tamiflu and hand sanitizer at my pharmacy. Its ridiculous.
