R50's as surrounds?

So I ran into a space issue in my 5.1 setup. I have Monitor 60's as my fronts, Monitor 40's as my surrounds, CS2 for center and a PSW125 for my sub. In the bedroom I have R50's for fronts and CS1 for center.
Would the R50's work ok as surrounds in the main room? The Polk website recommends Monitor 40's but I cant find speakers stands or wall space (moved furniture around this weekend) that will work and the setup is just easier if the R50's are the surrounds.
Will I notice any difference with them v the Monitor 40's?
P.S. using an Integra 5.9 receiver.

I have a buddy who uses R50's for his surrounds to go along w/ the rti8's that he has for the fronts. It sounds fine.

At one point I had four R50s and a CS2 in a 5.1 set-up. I seriously doubt that the timbre matching will be an issue if you use the R50s for surrounds.
The problem is positioning. Ideally you want surrounds to be above the ear. I suspect if the surrounds are far enough from the listening position, then the height might not be so crucial. (not sure about that, but that is my guess). If the alternative is to have smaller speakers (monitor 40s) that are equally low, then you might as well use the R50s and save some money.MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370

I have them for surrounds to my RTi'10...boy do they blast on all channel stereo. They are just at ear level with my couch. Been thinking of putting them upfront, naw the 10's are kings in my home!Retired Onkyo 520 (returned broken HK 247)
