Center speeker vibration

My neighbors are out of town and the wife had to work late last night, perfect time to rock the house! : I haven't played my system this loud in a while, but noticed my center speeker was vibrating all over the place. I had to re-center it every few minutes or so, if I had left the room, the speeker wire might have kept it from hitting the floor! My gear is mounted in a 3 shelf tv stand where the tv is mounted on a steel post above the stand. The center channal sits on the top shelf below the tv. I'm using a cheapo speeker, but I'm getting the csi a6. Trying to address the problem before the new speeker gets here. Wondering if the weight of the a6 will keep it in place or not. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. thanks jr

See if you can adjust the rack so it's slightly tilted back or buy some cheap rubber feet/pads at Home Depot or Radio Shack.

Argeed, try rubber feet or Blue Tack on the bottom.

is your sub causing the center speaker to vibrate and move? if not, and it is actually the center it's self causing the movement change the x-over point in the receiver so less bass is going to that speaker. it will sound better and be less stressful on the drivers and you :)

I don't think it's the sub, it's a very week sony cheapy that sounds horrible, it's about 7 ft. away from the center and I keep it set pretty low, I'll try setting the center to small in the receiver (I think I have it set at large). I still have much to learn about crossover points,so I'm trying to keep it simple with the receivers presets for now. I had it pretty darn loud, about -10db I think, but that center was jumping around like my wife when I'm trying to put things where they don't belong :D Thanks, and thanks to face and danz for their suggestions also, thought about 2 sided tape or velcro, rather not put anything sticky on my gear, rubber feet might be the way to go.. much abliged

You will also notice a substantial improvement in sound imaging coming out of the center speaker--the sound will be crytal clear and will allow you to pinpoint the direction where the sound is coming from! :D

yes, I will do I test with the stock rubber feet, and than the speekerdude. I'll try to give as accurate of a review as my un-trained ears can. My mains won't be here for a while, so the testing will be done with the csi a6 and less than par fronts.

Imaging is a term that's usually applied to being able to "locate" stereo audio somewhere in the space between or beyond two speakers, from what I've read. There's really no reason why center channel audio would sound like it's coming from anywhere other than the center, right? Idk, it's just an odd comment to me. I can, however understand your clarity point, as isolating the cabinet from whatever it rests on can improve sound.

Btw, superjunior, whatever center you have now, I'm guessing, is probably not nearly as solid as a CSiA6. That puppy would be quite a bit harder to move around substantially from vibration, IMO. And, last but not least... it's speaker, as in s-p-e-A-k-e-r!! And, that would be a SpeAkerDude that you bought, dude!;)

I hope all this helps you rock out.:)

Yes, it seams the grayer (sp)? my hair gets, the more I forget how to spell, sometimes I have to call my secretary when I'm out doing estimates to make sure I'm not spelling something wrong. Also, yes, my current center is a whimpy rca that is very light. I'll post a review of the SPEEKERdude when all is ready. Thanks for all the helpfull info...love this place:)

Hey, Superjunior you never posted a follow-up after getting your SpeakerDude. Did you not like it? Maybe, it did not meet up to your expectation. I feel bad if I made you to spend money on it, but it did not do any good to solve your original problem!

Nope, that project is in standby mode. I thought for sure my wife was getting me the a6 for my birthday a couple weeks ago, instead she got me (or her:)) the harmony one. So now I'm ready to buy my center and here comes this deal on an xpa3 that I couldn't pass up. Most recently a pair of a9's found a new home in my basement- and that wasn't planned-yet:D As my work is a little slow at the moment, I'm scratching up change for my a6. Funny how a new center was one of the first things on my list, and ends up being one of the last. Will do a follow up when I get my hands on the csi a6. Anyone got one for sale cheap? cherry?

That CSiA6 isn't going anywhere, its pretty heavy and it's going to sound even better when hooked up.

Congratulation on your decision to upgrade to a fine center speaker! My analogy to your decision would be, rather than getting a better set of tires for Honda Civic, you are considering getting an Acura TL instead. It will sound much better than what you have now. After all, center speaker produces something like 70% of dialogue anyway, and is a keystone in Home Theater System Movie experience! :)

I hear ya loud and clear, my system is lacking - big time - in the center after hooking up the a9's.
