Anyone ever listen to online radio?
I don't have a tuner anymore, and would like to listen to something at random that is free, and sounds decent.
Thanks guys/gals.

Thanks Bro. I do like most older country. Some of the newer. I am limited to about 200 CD's and it can get old quick.

Online radio isn't much better. Think low res MP3.

Most of the online stuff I have listened to sounds real bad. Some of it is tolerable, but I figured with the internet speeds running much higher they would have some better music quality. Even 128mp3s sound decent for casual listening if they were ripped well, and the original was good.

I've found some 160kb sample rate stations on itunes, and a few @ 224. There's a few dozen or so in various genre at 196. I haven't had a chance to run a lan cable from the server room out to where my AVR is to try the built in internet radio stuff yet, but I'm looking forward to getting that done.

Works good. Some good jazz on their that doesn't have that tin can Internet sound. I haven't heard anything great yet, but it is certainly tolerable for background and discovery music.
    Thanks

Ben may I suggest getting a Sony XDR-FIHD. I just bought one and it will stand up with all my hi-end tuners, the FM reception is smoking and you know I live way out in the hills of Oklahoma were the stop signs still say whoa. There are a few HD stations in Tulsa about 60 miles away and no problem, some are not as compressed as others, and the FM stations in small town Oklahoma are all analog and most of there stuff is still played on Albums. When I got the thing I placed it in my rack with my Nikko V, Yamaha t-85,Sansui 917 and I not so dam sure it doesnt sound better than all my other tuners, the low end is more in you face and the high end dosent seemed as rolled off. It pulls in more stations than my other tuners and doesnt have the high end hiss so many tuners have. The only thing I dont like about this little jem is it runs hotter than my amps and the display is so bright it lights the whole room it does have a dimmer but with it on I cant see a dam thing. Oh and it comes with a remote. It cost less than a hundred.

I will take note of that tuner. I just keep having crap pop up that prevents me from getting one. Too many projects and little income makes for a very slow audio journy...

The new Samsung players (BD-P1600 for example) have Pandora and Netflix capabilities built in. I have my BD-P1600 hardwired to the internet and basically you select Pandora from the remote and it presents the screen of your radio stations. You can create new stations directly from the player but I found it is easiest to go to Pandora from my laptop and add new stations via a web browser. I have the analogue outputs from the Blu ray player connected to the tuner input on my Musical Fidelity A1 integrated. Anyhow, the sound quality is excellent. The Netflix feature works great also except the sound is only stereo. You pick a movie, it downloads in a minute or two, and you watch it.

Pandora sounds great with a fast connection, but with DSL the sound quality is more like MP3.
