Beer you just don't like

I like to think that I know a bit about beer when it comes to appreciating different types and tastes...from pilsners to dunkels to porters.

I like beer.

Have you ever come across a beer you just don't like?

I had one today...hopefully this isn't someone's favorite...Lightning Porter.

I LOVE porters, so I picked this one up at the local Bevmo in an oversized bottle - a big boy sampler so to say :p

This one was just...off...from the first sip.

I couldn't quite put my finger on the 'bouquet'....then it struck me as I am an engineer and have personally been responsible for letting the 'magic smoke' out of electronic devices....this beer smelled like burnt electronics.

I suppose if you like this - then this is your beer - cuz it is robustly odiferous with this - along with the taste.

I gave it a try and now I know - not for me.

Not to start a beer war...but anyone else have a bad beer experience?

Are you smokin' somethin' again (per your admission above), or are you just drunk already?!

    Nope! :D

    First beer of the afternoon.

    Yeah I know....kinda like bad sex...no such thing...right ;)

I thought the same for beer...well - I've had a couple that just ain't right for my palate.

    This was one of those.....

Maybe it went bad. Kinda like skunk beer...dunno.

    This was just funky bad.

I cannot stand the normal Budweiser,Bush,Coors type of beer. To me, beer like that is just piss water. I don't drink very much but when I do I tend to like darker beers like Guinness or Watneys Cream Stout. When I drink the cheap piss water beers I always feel like death the morning after even though I should feel worse from drinking the darker beers. Go figure.

Oh...come on now....that may have been true 20 years ago.

Nowadays there are lots of very respectable and delectable yankee brews on par with most any old world country.

But, you won't find them mass marketed and on a top shelf in your local grocery store.

I doubt you would the first to admit that all American beers taste the same! :D

    Ben

    Will do!

I sometimes travel on business with a connection in ATL.

I am fortunate to live in the San Diego area where we have the renowned San Marcos Stone Brewery....Arrogant **** Ale is highly regarded by hop heads...but I prefer the more balanced Levitation Ale myself.

Imbibe a good beer and rejoice in the gustatory goodness!

I can take it or leave it. Just never been a big fan of alcoholic beverages for some reason but beer especially doesn't taste good to me.

No, not at all. There is no denying; Guinness is an acquired taste, and your taste means more for me.

Pretty much, if I can see through it, I won't like it. If it's less then 6% abv, I most likely will not like it. If it's mass brewed (Bud, Coors, Sierra Nevada, MGD types) I won't like it.

I'm really picky and only go for strong, micro-brews.

+1 on the guiness, tastes OK but just seems flat bubblewise. Now if mixed with Bass to create a black and tan.....cool !! Two others are Blue Moon & Molson's Golden, I generally enjoy Belgian beers as long as there's no fruit flavors, I also like the other Molsons, it's just that the Golden tastes like bananas to me YECHHHH !! I "stretch" my beer dollars by mixing something like Busch with a dark import such as Beck's or SPGirl.....most of the flavor at a greatly reduced cost which leaves more $$$ for audio stuff !! Burrrrrrp, scuse me:D

Corona - horse piss in a bottle
Heiniken - also rather foul. However, when I was in Ireland recently, I had a Heiniken draft (very small pub with very few draft beers) and it was actually good. Heiniken has a brewery in Ireland and it is entirely different than the bottled crap we get here.

While in college I was a beer snob, always trying the micro brew type stuff. This was ten years ago when the micro brewers were starting their comeback. There were so many very bad beers. I would say 75% or more were just terrible and far to many to either list or recall.
