I know that in my little bit of research, I found AVEA to be highly recommended.
Perhaps we can get some more experienced people to chime in?

Also, would this type of software also pertain to DLP tvs?

Digital Video Essentials, Avia, or the one I use the most - GetGray. That last one's nice 'cause you can just Paypal 'em the money, then download a DVD image that you can burn yourself. It also has the best patterns for digital displays, in my opinion.
    Equipment list:
    Onkyo TX-NR3010 9.2 AVR
    Emotiva XPA-3 amp
Polk RTi70 mains, CSi40 center, RTi38 surrounds, RTi28 rears and heights
SVS 20-39CS+ subwoofer powered by Crown XLS1500
    Oppo BDP-93 Blu-ray player
    DarbeeVision DVP5000 video processor
    Epson 8500UB 1080p projector
Elite Screens Sable 120" CineWhite screen

Avia is the most user friendly, as it basically walks you through the steps and what controls to adjust for each pattern, plus it has the most test patterns for hardcore tweakers. DVE is a little less user friendly, but has all the basic patterns you'll need. GetGray has the best/most useful patterns, but absolutely no instructions on the disc. However, the GetGray site has a well-written explanation of how to use the test patterns on the disc.

With the Getgray....you have to download the calibration? Is that right
