Venezuela will give a 300-acre island in the Delaware River to the state of New Jersey, the governor's office announced.

This seems to essentially be part of a bigger plan announced about 3 months ago. I wouldn't doubt that Citgo is getting some kickbacks from it either.

But there is a federal prison in North Camden. It's getting shut down by 2011 i think it was. Plans are to start rebuilding immediately and putting in high rise condos on the site. The problem is that those high rises will be over looking Petty's Island which is a petroleum products depot and some shipping company storage right now. Has been for decades. It's an eye sore. So I wouldn't doubt if Citgo was coerced off the island to let it go green again. They are probably getting something somewhere else at a REALLY cut rate but at least they are helping to clean up the mess they made.

Some mornings, I see the bald eagles they speak of flying at eye level while my train crosses the Ben Franklin Bridge. At dusk, you can see the night herons reflecting the light and they look really cool, like little flashing strobes.
