Mounting speakers

Hello. I just bought some speaker mounts (http://tinyurl.com/dklzxb) and in order to tilt them down the instructions say to use the safety screws. These are back surrounds rti6s. Using the safety screws means drilling at least three screws in the bottom of the speakers. Instructions (http://tinyurl.com/ccbjwt) actually say use five safety screws but only 6 came in box for two speaker mounts. So I'm guessing three on the bottom is okay.

My question is does anyone know if drilling the holes and using the safety screws can cause any negatives in speaker performance?

    These are for BTech BT-77s.

    I use these as well for my fronts, which are RTiA3s - the successor to the RTi6.

    You do not have to drill holes if you do not want to.

    Instead, use zip ties looped thru the rear power port and secure them to the BT-77 brace:

    As you can see from the pics, I have my speakers tilted down as well - all is good and secure and snug - no holes in those lovely cabinets.

    H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

    Sure.

    Here's a shot from the front of my rig with the RTiA3 on the mounts:

    I used the BT-77s originally with my RTi4s, then for a bit, I had LSi7s up as well - which are heavier than the RTi6 - no problem using the zip ties in back to keep them in place.

    The square cabinet design of the RTi6 is better suited for the clamp design of the BT-77 anyway.

    The curved cabinets of the newer RTiA series gives less pinching area and so the zip ties are mandatory.

    So the ties go all the way from the bottom brace to the port. It's hard to tell from the picture. Do your A3s have just one mounting hole at the top of the port? The RTi6 has only one mounting hole at the top of the port.

    Yup - I run the zip tie thru the mounting hole at the top of the powerport on the back.

    I had to join a couple of zip ties to make a loop big enough to go thru the powerport mounting hole and down low enough to get close to the BT-77 support.

    Then I fasten/capture that loop from the powerport mounting hole with second tie wrap that goes around the BT-77 support member as in the second picture:

    Credit where it is due goes to McLoki, who first posted up his ziptie idea for his LSi bookshelves - I ran with that for my RTiA3s.

    Erik what do you have around the support brace where the zip tie goes around? Is that just a piece of electical tape to keep the tie from slipping on the brace? Looking to finish mounting tomorrow...thanks for letting me know of the idea! :)

    Friction tape.
