They are installing FIOS on my street. The two year deal is for $99/month, Verizon Freedom Essentials phone service, Internet service and what amounts to an expanded basic cable service (no premium channels). Plus, they are giving away $150 gift cards. My current bill for these services is about $140. So it looks like a good deal. However, I know there are taxes and surcharges to add so the price will be a lot closer.

Who is a FIOS fanboi???

I'll let you know in about 2 months...we signed up to install in June, because we hate our Direct tv service.

There will be the usual taxes and fees on top of the $99, but don't forget the equipment charges also. They charge a per-month fee for each receiver. The DVR we signed up for is $20/month IIRC. Just a standard receiver is $6, but they were waiving that fee when we signed up. Not sure what the HD receiver fee is.

I can't get FIOS yet but I've been wanting to get FIOS for a couple of years now. VERIZON sucks big time for unable to offer FIOS in my area.

I've only heard good things about FIOS so far. If you can get it and it's cheaper than regular services and comes with a gift card offer, don't hesitate to try it. I am quite certain you'll see the new meaning of FAST Internet.

I switched to Fios triple package last month and so far so good. I get the Extreme Hd package which is 110 a month (we get the multiroom dvr which is another $20 a month so our bill is $134), but comes with the faster internet 20/5. It's extremely consistent speed wise. its the same at peek use time 7-8pm weekdays as it is sunday at 3am. The offered HD channels vs what I was getting with comcast is much better as well. So far no complaints.

I'll be getting it so I don't have to fork money over to Comcast just so they can fork me in the keister every month for sub par service and horrendous customer service. At least when I call Verizon, the dudes realize pretty quickly that I know more about what I'm calling about than the average bear and they bump me right up to a 2nd or 3rd level tech. That and when I ask a question of someone at Verizon, they usually have an answer. Most times their field service techs are knowledgable, courteous and fast. Sometimes you get a trained monkey that couldn't wire his way out of a wet paper bag but for the most part, positive experiences.

That alone is enough for me to choose Verizon FiOS over Comcrap. But FiOS has much more potential for speed increased than Comcrap's antiquated coax network. Also, with FiOS, you essentially have a digital subscriber line. That connection is yours and yours alone. You don't share it with the rest of your block like Comcrap forces you to do.

They've been "planning" on installing it in my apartment complex for the past year or so...still waiting.

DAMN YOU VERIZON...FREE ME FROM COMCRAP!

The houses across the street from me have FIOS, and the houses behind me do too. ****.

Verizon FIOS is great. It also depends on where you live though as far as service goes. The rebates could be a shady deal and make sure you keep all paper work. When you change to fiber, Verizon will not let you go back to copper so that is something to think about. Verizon also offers Direct TV services through partnership. At my old place I had Verizon FIOS, the speeds are awesome up and down. The FIOS HD TV is claimed to be 100 percent uncompressed therefore superior to others due to its fiber technology. There was an actual comparsion of the TV service by an independant group that verified the HD quality and Verizon was better. If you are in Florida, you may have the most problems with Verizon FIOS. The installation is of course done by a local company there and the quality of the install could be very bad.
