Anybody know which caps are pictured? They look like Solen MKP. What about the "quality" of the point to point wiring/soldering? Quality overall? I know it's hard to tell by a couple pics.....but any input would be helpful.

I believe those are Solens also."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Solens. The layout and soldering looks top notch, but I don't see any tubes.Political Correctness'.........defined

Look at the picture on the right, there are 3 sockets."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

But...is it an AES? I ask because I had one (The signature AE-3 version) and compared to other tubed preamps I've had it gets very low ratings....no, I don't want to step in your toes_________________________________________________

I kid Ricardo, no it's not an AES. It's a Ming Da at a pretty good price. Don't need it, but it be a good way to enjoy a nice tubed pre-amp occasionally. My brother (blakeh) just bought Doug's Dodd ELP which used to be Noel's and he might get tired of that and sell it to me...............but since he really likes it; it could be awhile.
I also just bought another one of those HCT HMS100 (rebadged Dared MP5; Fatman, etc.) iPod kits. Too good of a deal to pass up. It has the iPod dock (I don't own an iPod) and the speakers new in the box. My other HCT sounds so good I wanted a back-up to mess around with.
I want to upgrade some caps, resistors and I found a site that has a DIY to attach jumpers in a few places and make one of the inputs an output so I could use it as a pre-amp too!
BUY IT NOW is dangerous!!!!!

That is a neat little preamp. The soldering and component layout is neat and seems well thought out too. But certainly things could be improved a bit here and there.
But since you said it's Ming Da, I think it's more than better for cost / build ratio.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -
The caps are SCR's whom I believe is also Solen's source.Testing
