Why is it?

The Washington Post can be so full of over-opinionated and politically biased jackasses but the same company can run the website Slate (http://www.slate.com) which while it has the same amount of over-opinionated and politically biased jackasses, at least they have a fair spread.

Another thing I also noticed. With Slate some stuff I agree with, some I don't. But the investigative reporting and facts seem to be more real and down to Earth than the crap The Washington Post publishes. Slate will report on the same stories but unlike the WP, they have a kind of anti-spin on alot of stuff. Also, every article, no matter how political or agenda specific it is, usually has a counter-point article published too. It may take a little digging to find it but it's there.

Now I'm not saying that Slate is fair and unbiased or a defacto news source. I'm just wondering how a site like Slate can moderate in content and offer intelligent, reality based reporting and it's run by a newspaper that gets the whole idea of journalism wrong so often?

It doesn't make any sense to me.

Anyway, what prompted this post was this quite interesting piece on the alleged impending collapse of our infrastructure in this country.

Look up any other news source, including The Washington Post and see what they have to say. This is the only article I've seen that actually lays it out as it REALLY is and offers cited references as backing for the argument presented.

Oh, it is real. Everyroad/pothole/rusted-out bridge I've driven over/by in the last several years would seem to support that view.

Maybe in your area, not so around here. Most of the roads are in good condition (for the Northeast that is, land of the frost heave) and bridges, i can only think of a handful that are in need of repair and two of those have already been torn down and are in the process of being rebuilt. Long before any stimulus package was put through.

a BIG DITTO here in Mpls Mn....roads are awful....tire swallowing potholes..yes its the climate and salt used during winters...but more the reason for better maintance....there are at least a few flat tires every rush hour that clog traffic due to pot holes, and lets not forget the I35 bridge collaspe due to....
