I scored a Denon DRA-835R off EB for $35 shipped. It arrived today with a nice hole in the box. The thing was packed very poorly and yes, there is damage. The RCA jacks for the pre-amp input are busted. One is rolling around inside so I am afraid of turning it on until I fish it out.

I should be able to fix the damage fairly easily so I am not sure if this is worth filing a claim over given the price I paid. Any thoughts?

Well, You could file a claim but UPS or FedEx will give you your money but take the damaged pre off your hands. Sometimes, they don't bother taking it back so the money and the damaged unit is ended in your hands. But there is no definite rules for it and if they pay for the claim, they are entitled to the damaged unit. So, it's up to you whether you think it'll worth to fix it or to get your money back.

That's a nice receiver. Place a claim and ask to keep the receiver.

I cleaned it up a bit and removed the loose pieces (parts of the RCA jack and a staple). Man this thing sounds nice over headphones. This one might replace my DRA-825R.

I have a feeling that the damage may have been pre-existing. The ground terminal of the RCA jack is nowhere to be found and it looks like someone had been inside before. There was no mention of this in the description but I'll check with the seller. The only thing that they did mention was that the tuner presets were not working. No problem there. I they just didn't understand Denon's odd user interface. You have to press the numbers then hit "enter".

At this point I think that it is worth much more than the $35 and I doubt I'll file a claim.

The seller said that it was not broken before it was shipped. However, upon closer inspection of the poor quality EB photos, the jack is clearly missing.

Well, it is still one heck of a deal. If I had known about the damage before, I probably would not have placed a bid. I can get the part for $3.50.
