Since my Wii Sports (the one that comes with the wii) took a crap on me, i've been looking into how to backup and burn my wii games in case other games decide to stop playing.

I know there's only a few drives that are able to burn wii games properly, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere. Same goes with the type of media i'd need.

Anyone have any experience with this?

you need dvd-r media. you will need to hack your wii so it will play the backed up games. and you can not update it after you hack it. i had mine set up to play dvd movies and dvd-r copies of games but my sister updated it and i have not taken the few hours to un-update it and re hack it.

i have not seen a list of burners but i would just try a few of your friends drives if yours doesnot work.

Definitly need to chip it before you even think about backups. Then it is meida specific. I you would use DVD-R not +R. Some games take dual layer games like Super Smash Bros.

Also FWIW you need to be pretty handy at soldering, and pin point soldering at that. Some claim to have solderless chips but eventually you will need to do it.

I don't have any experience backing up Wii games but if it's anything like backing up a truck, I'm all over it!

With the newest patch out for the wii, you can also play games straight off of an SD card now...i'll have to look into how that effects the hacking scene.
