UFC 97 was pretty lame except for when Chuck Liddell got owned.:D Chuck's strength use to be stand up but he keeps getting his **** handed to him at his own game. Good thing he's retiring. Anderson Silva's fight was about as entertaining as watching grass grow. :rolleyes:I just hope the next ppv is better.

Liddell lost again?! Damn. In a way tho Im not surprised. I always thought he looked like crap when he fought. He came out with his hands wide open and looked awkward as hell yet always seemed to knock people out like there was no tomorrow - now he gets his **** kicked every fight. Who whooped him this time?

Rua got lucky. Until then, the fight was pretty even. Rua doesn't have much of a stand up game. He likes to be on the ground but Liddell wouldn't let him take it there. The rest of the fight, Liddell was takin' hit was dishin' it out. Even Rua was surprised he rung Chuck's bell.

As for Liddell, he looked like he did when he first got in the UFC. He was lucid and focused and looked damn good. Better than Couture did. He was in great shape, he was with it and you could tell he had been working with people on his guard and his training.

as for the rest of the event, the Silva v. Leites fight was BORING but it was a tatcical fight. Only problem was Leites was always sitting on his back waiting for Silva to have some kind of lapse in judgment or something and mix it up on the mat. Silva would have none of it and it made the fight just suck.

I was quite surprised at how quick the Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Brian Stann fight was over. I never saw somebody pull a Kimura that fast on someone that wasn't beat down and tired.

I thought it was a good event and quite interesting. Although I think Wiman got shafted.

It was no surprise he lost as it was against Shogun. Good to see Chuck's poor strike defense exposed, again. Either he needs to learn how to keep his guard up, retire, or go to WEC to fight cans. I don't agree with Jstas, Rua was clearly leading the fight while Chuck was looking for his usual lucky bunch and did absolutely nothing the whole fight.

It wasn't enough to tell if Rua is back to his old form yet. If he can regain his form though, this class looks to be an exciting battle of the Brazilians, Machida and Rua with two excellent gatekeepers in Evans and Jackson. IMO the best weight division hands down (no pun intended to Chuck). Sure you can tell I don't have much faith in Evans winning against Machida, we will see what happens in the next UFC. :)

I do agree with the Silva fight though, both refused to play the others game and both are to blame for it, although Silva had a title to lose if he decided to mix it up and get caught in submission. Boring fight but understandable from both sides. Leites however should have known he was behind after he lost 3rd round and should have made more effort to take Silva down.

I couldn't agree more. I was so pissed I stayed to watch that snorefest... 5x 5 minute rounds of dancing, followed by a little contact, followed by Leites laying on his back like a horny dog waiting to be mounted or something. Rinse and repeat.

I understand that's where Leites felt he was strongest, and didn't want to go toe to toe with Silva, but after round 3, it might be time to change your strategy if you really want that belt....

If I ever see Leites fight again it will be too soon...
