Well I'm not sure if the coupon codes will work if you're not signed up for the newegg newsletters (which is where you find the codes). You need to have an account at the egg, I know that for sure. Then you can sign up for their promotional newsletters and updates. Do you have an account already at newegg?
And sorry bout mucking up the water by bringing used speakers into the equation. But it was already mentioned in this thread. Just wondered what others thought about the speakers I found for round $500 compared to the Polk deal at the egg.
Send me a PM and I'll give you the promo codes. -
I don't mind you bringing used speakers into the equation...I'm just trying to find a nice setup and I'm getting a lot of feedback from everyone. Like I said before, I'm still new to all of this and I don't wanna waste a lot of money if I can hopefully figure out something nice from the very start.

Yeah I hear you on that. I'm new too. My last boyfriend had a nice setup but took most of it when we broke up. Now I'm trying to get my own system set up. But like you, I'm trying to not spend a fortune and get a nice sounding system first time.
If you PM me I'll give you the codes. Not sure if we're allowed to post them in here and also not sure if they'll work for you. But worth a shot I reckon. -

I'm really considering buying 2 M60's @ $129/ea. then 2 M50's @ $99/ea. If I buy the M60's should I wait to find a better deal on the 50's or is that as good as it'll get? Also, should I go for the CS1 or CS2 center channel?

Not having had too much experience, i would assume that this is about the best you'll find the M60s. Also, definitely go with the CS2. From what people have said, it's well worth it, and an absolute steal at the price Newegg has it. Read my PM, that should help you decide. The CS1 is the lowest entry center speaker Polk has (I think). The CS2 aint the best but its better than the CS1 (plus it has a promo code). So that should be a no-brainer. Don't cheap out. Get decent mid-level components. I've heard it said that MOST your money should be spent on speakers in an audio setup. So stay within budget and get the best you can afford is my best advice.

You barely know me and you're calling me cheap huh?? After I read your PM I had already decided on the CS2, but thanx for the extra motivation! Thank you again Terra.

Hey Terra,
Not to possibly bring up bad memories but what system did you have before the ex swiped all the gear?
I agree with trying to get the best speakers your budget can handle. Cheaping out on audio is very common ... I was just ragging on my best friend who spent 2000$ on a HDTV and than was considering a cheap surround sound package to bring up the audio. With some of my pushing he is considering some entry level towers ... Im pretty good at Audio Video peer pressure

I really don't recall the exact model numbers of our setup. I just know it sounded very good and I miss it. My BF was very controlling though and had me brainwashed. I did everything for him to make him happy. Even did stuff for his friends. And what did I get for it? I got dumped. Yeah, lets not go there.

OK...I just bought the Monitor 60's and the CS2 from Newegg. $350 for all three and free shipping seems unbeatable to me! I think I'm going to get the PSW125 sub next. Also, can anyone tell me why I shouldn't buy Monitor 50's for my rear surrounds when they cost $100 and the M40's cost $150? I guess I probably wouldn't need the M50's, but I'm missing something here with the price I guess.

Hey Rodeo,
Some good advice from Terra S. The CS2 may not be the best center. But I'd like to see ANYONE beat it for that price. It's an excellent center. Nothing wrong with using M50s as surrounds...I use their equivalent (TSI-300s) as surrounds myself. No need for stands!
If you can I'd swing the PSW505 sub (www.onecall.com) and you'd have a 'nice' system there!

There's currently a coupon-code (which expires today at midnight) for the Monitor 60's which knocks off 10 bucks per speaker. So a pair of Monitor 60's is $239.98 with free shipping. Would that be a decent deal or would y'all suggest waiting for the Monitor 70's to come back in stock and look for a sale on those? I think the only difference is the 70's have 4 drivers vs 3 drivers for the 60's. Oh, and the 70's have a slightly wider frequency response. But I'm just wondering if that is worth the extra coin or if I should grab the 60's for $240 a pair.
Hi,
I wouldn't worry about that, M60s are fine if you have a good sub. I like the M70s because they can be pumped up by a power amp and then put out gobs of sound because of all those drivers, etc. Those are also larger drivers than in the 60s and 50s, and they're a 2.5 speaker system rather than a 2 speaker configuration of crossovers. A number of higher end Polks also have a cascade crossover.
This post is probably too late. Sounds like you may have made your move already and the right one at that.

I like the fact that I wouldn't need stands either. That's kind of what's pushing me in that direction. The specs on that sub are great, I'll have to start some searching for a good deal. And where were you earlier in the post when I was asking about the TSI300's??:P I hadn't heard a whole lot about those so I was seeking a little more input, but I am going to be very happy with what I just bought I think. My g/f might not be quite as happy as I am, but I guess she'll deal with it huh?

What do you use as the rear surrounds, if any? I'm not sure if I'll even worry about those for a while, but I'm curious because it sounds like you're setup is somewhat similar to what mine will be at some point.

I don't know if that would come out quite right...I might have more explaining than necessary if I would say that. I will say thank you very much to you though!! You saved me $30 and I would say that all together, that's about the best deal I can think of. People spend more on some of the crappy HTIB than I just did for a pretty rockin' trio of speakers. Are there any other subs out there that have good performance that might be a little cheaper? Doesn't have to be Polk for the sub, but I'm probably wasting everyone's time because in time I'll probably just end up buying the PSW505.

Since you're doing this for HT, don't cheap out at all on the sub. I'm not that familiar with the Polk subs myself, only that they don't necessarily have the greatest reputation (not nearly as good as their speaker line), but i do know that there have been some recently that have raised some eyebrows.
But in the price range you're talking, i'd seriously consider the ED A2-300 - the thing is an amazing 12" sub that goes down to 18hz and right now is only $350 with free shipping. Look around avsforum.com and you'll find certain sub companies coming up again and again - svsound, hsu, ed, velodyne, epik - but Polk is never in those lists. I know it's not cheaper like you were looking for - but it's still what i would recommend for you to complete an awesome system. Just a couple fyis, the price is bumping up to $400 in May for the sub (can't remember when, around mid-May or something) and it took about a month to get my buddy's - so if you need it in a hurry and are impatient, you might want to look elsewhere. But i think it's worth the wait.

I appreciate the input. Just because I'm looking for a better price doesn't mean that I'll cheap out!!:P I'm getting a terrible reputation here I think. I was a little concerned about the Polk subs as well because I have never heard great things about them. I'll have to check out that sub that you recommended for sure. I'm saying to myself that I'm going to hold off buying a sub for a little while, but I'll probably have bought one by next week after I listen to my new M60's working with my old...alright...Polk htib sub.

She might try to trump it, but I think she's also going for a nice system that is rather affordable at the same time.
I will definitely let you know about the new setup when I get it going. My problem is the fact that I work full-time and I'm also a full time college student...leaves very little free time to enjoy things like hoooking up a new speaker setup. I'm also thinking that I should try to sell my Onkyo TX-SR506 receiver and use that money to buy something better and more powerful. Any more recommendations guys (and girls)?? The receiver isn't very old, but I'm thinking I need something a bit better.

I'm not stuck on one brand or another as I am still new to this, so I'm just kinda throwing the receiver question out there to find what everyone is thinking. Thanks for the suggestion though because it gives me a good starting point. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to use M50's for surrounds and then maybe M30's down the line for rear surrounds. I have to make sure the g/f doesn't get to upset with the purchase and she likes the looks of the M60's and I do as well. I'm sure the SDA's are great speakers, but she definitely didn't like the looks of those at all because of the size mainly.
