Why do all these celebrity news casters keep insulting Susan Boyle?

I've seen videos of her on stage and in her home talking to news people everywhere who are condescending and patronizing towards a grown, 47 year old woman who has spent her entire life caring for her mother and treating like she's some kind of 10 year old.

They keep saying that she is dowdy, matronly and so on. They say that people were laughing at her and ask her if she realizes that. They can't believe her video has had 16 million + hits on YouTube. Even the lame **** judges act like total douchebags.

Everyone did the same thing to that Paul Potts guy and he sounded like it could have been Jos

I don't think anyone could say it better than this Jstas. I agree and I only found out about Paul Potts a couple of weeks ago...another story of this kind. Let's get over the glitz, botox and plastic surgery, 5 hours of make-up, and personal trainers and start treating human beings like 'humans'!

    I agree-Well said Jstas!!

I haven't seen any of the news interviews or read any of her backstory yet. I saw the performance on stage and it was awesome. I heard the 'Cry Me a River' and loved it! No doubt about it she's a star and I will also be looking forward to an album (SACD? ;)) release.
I wonder though--how did she get that kind of control, etc. Did she have any formal training. Did she pursue a singing career but continually get shot down because of appearances? I wonder why, after the Charity CD was put out, that nobody discovered her then? Or what series of events led to her contributing to the CD to begin with.

That said, if Susan comes out with an album, I'm buyin'. No doubt about it.

I don't want them to leave her alone. I want them to keep focused on her and get her out in front of some people that can make things happen for her.

What I want is for these people to stop treating her like she is beneath them because she's not a "beautiful person".

Jealousy. The lack of a teleprompter to feed her info/lyrics. The list could go on and on about WHY they aren't singing her the praises she deserves. Her gutsiness and poise was just as great as her voice.

The charity CD was a local thing for the church.

She had some issues at birth and ended up with brain damage a learning disability because of it. Seems to have fared well though.

But when she was younger, all those self-important jerks that were kids then too picked on her and tormented her. She took up singing as an escape.

If you sing for 40 some odd years, the muscles that control your voice get very toned and strong and you can do things with your voice that others can't. It's just like body building.

That's very true, my father, who passed away last summer spent 1000s of dollars in his youth studying with voice coaches in NYC, Chicago, L.A., etc. Trying to make it as a crooner....never did but he would do his exercises everyday and was singing into his 80s...a very nice voice too!

If she sang at Carnegie Hall tonight , she would be singing to a standing ovation. I hope she continues with her dreams and doesn't get screwed by a record contract. The Lady is a treasure.

For once I'm going to agree with Jstas! The whole scenario reminds me of a song that Harry Chapin wrote about a guy who loved to sing, and tried to make it big, but the critics panned him, so he went home and only sang in private. I have to look up what the name of that song is.

Susan Boyle needs to just give those reporters a little bit of Scottish honesty.

Well I hate to admit it but your right for once John :D I think a large part of why most if not all of us here at CP appreciate Susan is because we are first and foremost music lovers and could really care less about how someone looks, in fact sometimes I even have my eyes closed while listening. The public as a whole has placed way too much value on beauty and as a nation we suffer because of this, we have every magazine in the world and reporters in the news constantly putting down some pop star or actress because she got pregnant and doesnt look like she is used to sad very sad.

    Excellant post sir!

Susan Boyle has got one helluva gift and these dirtbag pieces of **** known as THE PRESS just have to keep to their lowlife standards of dragging the world down. It seems like nobody can catch a break from them these days.

The great thing about this is Susan Boyle is going to make millions from her gift and it's going to piss off so many no talent "pretty people!" They'll continue to make fun of her and try to drag her down, but a woman like her can't be brought down.

I have no doubt that she'll win "Britains Got Talent" and go on to sell lots of records, go on the talk show circuit and eventually perform in concerts around the world to packed houses!

And please Susan, stay the sweet humble little lady that you are! Thats part of your gift!

    John

How do you think she can parlay into mainstream, regardless of how well she does on Britain’s Got Talent? What kind of star can she be?

I honestly believe she can do whatever she wants now. I think that she’s going to be the star of a Broadway musical, a West End show, a movie, perhaps. When you have a voice like that and you have the worldwide attention that she’s had, the sky is the limit. In the end, her ambition, her own dream, was to be a professional singer. Well, she’s certainly going to be that because, if I’m not mistaken, Mr. Cowell will already be plotting a global album deal and probably a world tour. So Susan Boyle is going to live her dream.

    Jstas, great comments. Thx.

That's it right there.. she's not a good looking women by society standards.. so they use words like homely, matronly, etc. Would they use any of those words on a woman such as Aretha Franklin? Of course not.. both women are talented in their own right. but since she doesn't have the look that matches her talent.. some people put her down and look down upon her.

If her looks matched her voice she would be a billionaire by now.

I find that Diane Schuur is similar, and has an amazing voice.. but because she's a larger woman and doesn't fit what society calls "pretty" or beautiful, she doesn't get the audience that she deserves.

The rhetoric is how the beautiful people prop themselves up that they mean something to society when they really have no talent. They have been getting by on looks forever, and think looks are more important than anything. Most are of the media are just shallow and really insignificant. Their only real talent is to be able to sit in a make up chair, look at red light on top of a camera and read a tele-prompter.

Her looks aren't important. The story is about her voice. They can't keep it about that.

But there is the hypocrisy Al. Aretha is as big as a house, it's a wonder she hasn't had a heart attack! But even though she doesn't fit "todays" standards of a beautiful woman, people still flock to her concerts, simply because they know she can sing you right out of your socks!

If Aretha tried to get noticed as a new comer today, people would treat her the same way as Susan.

I for one am glad to see actual talent celebrated! In this day and age of lip syncing and processed, manufactured music - its really refreshing to be giving credit to a singer that can ACTUALLY SING!

Hogwash. All of it. There have been MANY ugly women that have made it to diva status because of their talent. This lady is no exception. How often do you see a standing ovation within seconds of singing in front of a large crowd for the very first time. Personally, I've never seen it happen before.

When she does a CD [hopefully an SACD], I'm getting it. I don't care what songs she sings. With a voice like that? Mmmmm. Gonna be good stuff for sure.

I liked her performance, but there were definitely issues with her voice on some of the notes she tried to hit and didn't/couldn't.......

I'm sure with some formal training those would be worked out and I would definitely look to buy an album in the future.

if and when she is able to record a full length album.. I sure hope that she is surrounded by GOOD, really good people that have her best interest at heart.

I can easily see her being manipulated by money hungry record execs... having her sing songs that don't fit her style... thereby ruining her first and maybe only chance at a successful singing career.

The wrong people could easily destroy a career if she isn't presented in a way that is her natural persona. Meaning... don't try to make her into some glitzy seasoned pop star.. I can see it now... consultants getting a hold of her and trying making her look like someone she's not.

Her talent also lies in that she looks like your neighbor lady down the street.. not a made up doll of what a record exec thinks will sell to the public.

ok.. that's it.. i said my peace. ;)

I just watched her performance for the first time. She has a simply stunning voice.

Why anybody would feel the need to criticize this woman because she doesn't necessarily fit into the socially accepted definition of what's beautiful is beyond me. Beauty is much more than outward appearances...and Susan Boyle is definitely a beautiful woman in my book.

If she comes out with an album, I'm buying it.
