And yes always like that, but enjoy when people say under $25k don't pay taxes. Well with kids yes, but not if single. Most people also have no idea what their tax is, most think if they get money back its ok.
I know. Lol. It's amazing how many people DON'T understand the percentages being subtracted from their paychecks every year. I mean, wouldn't you want to know where your money is going and why it's being taken out and how it is calculated?SDA 1C, SDA 2A, SDA SRS 2, CMT-340SE, Swan M200MKII, Swan D1080MKII, Behringer MS40

A National sales tax would have the illegals, pimps, drug smugglers and everone paying taxes. Anyone who buys things would pay taxes. The numbers indicate that it would provide enough income to run the country IF we decide to step up and send our so-called "representatives" home on a regular basis, no matter what; pork and earmarks are just there to give them job security while they put forth the facade of representation, saying one thing while campaigning at home and doing quite differently while inside The Beltway.

"Americans spend 5.4 billion hours per year complying with the federal tax code -roughly the equivalent of 3 million people working full-time."
I'm thankful to pay my CPA, but is all of this really necessary? A 5 million word tax puzzle?
I've seen the $200 billion number related to the cost of compliance.-Ignorance is strength - -

Hello..

There is apparently a plan which will eliminate some of the use of CPAs:
"Austan Goolsbee, a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisers and the executive director of the Volcker board, devised a detailed plan during the campaign that would largely do away with tax returns for millions of Americans.
Under the "Simple Return" plan, the Internal Revenue Service would complete tax returns for taxpayers whose sole income comes from one employer and whose interest income comes from one bank. The IRS would then send a copy of the return to the taxpayer. If the first wave of the program worked well, it could be expanded to other taxpayers.
Mr. Goolsbee has estimated the plan would save as many as 225 million hours of tax-preparation time and more than $2 billion a year in tax-preparation fees. White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the White House is "studying the implementation" of the campaign proposal."
I'm sure it will be just as efficient and trustworthy as, say, the BMV or The Postal Service... -

Good thing I mostly do corporate tax returns...
The gov't would never make it easy for corporations...except when it comes to bailout payments. -

Agreed..and of course, all taxes on corporations are passed along to the consumer and/or end-user of the product or service.
The government is becoming more efficient all the time....
....in moving power away from citizens. -

This would should have little to no impact on CPAs. You don't need a CPA for this type of return. Heck you don't even need turbo tax or H&R Block. What they described is a 1040EZ or 1040A filing equivalent, and there is not need to pay for a CPA on a return that easy. Anyone with an pencil and half a brain can do that return in about 10 minutes, and five of those are writing your name, address and SSN on the form. -

You're right... but people walk into our office to pay us to do these types of return ALL the time. ALLLL the time. It's kind of ridiculous how many people come in to do a basic tax return.SDA 1C, SDA 2A, SDA SRS 2, CMT-340SE, Swan M200MKII, Swan D1080MKII, Behringer MS40
