Wow. That's a nice amp - I had one & loved it. Really packs a punch. Tightened and gave the bass much more slam and punch and really just made everything sound better. Someone snag this puppy. You can't go wrong at this price!"Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." Bob Seger

Steelervic,
Is the 5500 still available? I just picked up a couple of RTi12's and I'm reading that I'm going to need to jump into the world of amp's. Adcom seems to have a good rep and sufficient power for these new speakers. I have a Denon 3808, but more power always seems like a good idea right. (At least that's what I tell the highway patrol.)
Thanks.AVR - Denon 3808CI 7.1

Hey Vinny,
I can tell you that that Denon will make a great pre/pro for an Adcom as I use a similar combo! The Denon has a nice neutral sound with a bit of warmth, perfect for what you need. Go for it.
Welcome to the Club.P. I'm listening to Chopin on mine right now...on much cheaper Polks than yours....and that combo makes my 325+ dollar Yamaha Universal DVD/CD player sound fairly passable...which is saying 'something'!!

CNH,
Glad to hear that, haven't gone down the road to separates previously, so I'm hoping this will be a good starting point. If I understand correctly, it is possible to run the mid and tweeter with the AVR and the bass from the Adcom. I think there have been some comments that there may be some phase issues that come to play when trying to do that though. Any thoughts?

I would hook up the RTi-12s DIRECTLY to the Adcom....so that the Adcom will POWER them, then you run a good RCA interconnect from the Denon's R/L pre-outs to the R/L ins on the Adcom. The Denon will do everything else--but not amplify--you're bypassing the amps in the Denon. The Adcom is much more powerful and will make those 12s 'sing'. If you're running HT, the other speakers can be wired to the Denon and you can sound balance everything from there.

Steelervic,
That's great. My zip is 75094. I'm still new to the amp world, but it seems many folks speak pretty well of the Adcom's in the good value range. I had been looking at the gfa 555, how would you compare the 5550 to the 555?

CNH,
I'm guessing that with a true 200 wpc versus the denon's 'rated' 130 wpc, the speakers should perform significantly better. Since the RTi's can be bi-amp'd I'd wondered if there was a way to power the top half of the speaker with the denon and the lower half with the amp. (Just trying to get as much juice to the speakers as possible.) But it sounds like the cleanest way is to just pre-out to the Adcom and let it do its thing, eh?
Thanks again for the help. Can't wait to try this out.AVR - Denon 3808CI 7.1

Yea don't bother using the receiver to biamp. It will be best to let the amp handle the mains and just use the receiver to power the surrounds and center.
