At 250 hours of use, the caps have just broken in!!!
If your BAT Amplifier is an "SE" edition or has a Super-Pak upgrade then your amplifier uses Jensen capacitors that have a very limited life. According to Jensen this life is about 250 hrs of use. I'm providing the service to replace aging caps with brand new ones. I will quote each job individually, but below is an example price. BAT VK-600 or 600SE Super-Pak Overhaul $800.00 including return shipping of the board within the lower 48. Please allow up to 4 weeks, but usually it's much quicker. I will include your old capacitors as proof that the work was done. Please don't try to so this yourself. It's very easy to rip or lift a trace and the specific caps that BAT uses aren't comonly available in the US.If they are showing physical signs of wear then they need to be replaced immediately!!!My service can't be offered to countries that require ROHS compliance on imported electronics, as the solder and caps are not compliant. The solder I use is a closely held secret, but I can say that it's not compliant.I can also offer other caps available by individual quote, like Mundorf and Clarity Cap. These are more expensive, but provide better life. Clarity Cap MR's would run about $1900.00I will soon be able to offer a mod package for those who didn't get a Super-Pak from the factory, for around $1500.00

I love how music can brighten up a bad day. -
Sounds like Jensen may have a lawsuit on their hands.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~

sure, I was just trying to make a fast buck and you going making fun...........................I actually recommend replaceing the caps every 100 hours, along with the flux capacitor and the spark plugs.

Has to be a typo. 2500 maybe? Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

That should be relatively easy to verify. Manufacturers of electronic components occasionaly release a batch of components that appear fine, but due to some issue not known at the time, they start prematurely failing in the field. Although somewhat rare it does happen. Aside from damaging their reputation, it is also a big warrenty expense, and has a tendancy to irritate their customers, so it is to their advantage to replace the defective part.
Polk did this with their LSiW sub, which had a propensityto go up in smoke. Whether that was a design issue, or due to a bad batch of parts, I do not know.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

I have some Jensen manufactured caps here, I guess it's time to swap them out.

OK for just one serious minute, I put well over 5000 hours on my BAT tube pre and VK 500 ss amp, both had/have the BAT PAK and they sounded just as good or better than the day I brought them home, give me a break. The BAT gear will give you years and years of service, when a cap needs replacing you will know it.

Do you know what the cost/benefit of BAT Pak upgrade?
Thanks. -
Haimoc,
To do the upgrade is fairly expensive if retro-fitted by BAT, I would not buy a piece without the BAT-PAK if offered for the piece. Using the VK-500 as an example on the used market the difference is 200-300 dollars, for the pre-amps the cost difference is higher. The energy storage capabilities with the extra capacitors is a no brainer, furthmore, they use many small capicitors (oil-filled), this helps their gear be some of the "fastest" I have ever heard for transient response. Very nice refined sound. Of course all of this occurs within the confines of a system so any given system will display anomolies systemic to that particular system...or as we say YMMV, or as MadMax says.........everything matters.

"Complete nonsense" is good characterization... paper in oil capacitors have life that is measured at least in decades.
It is also incorrect to state that we no longer use Jensen capacitors - we use a LOT of them, just in some applications we use different parts.

I would replace the blinker fluid at the same time. You want to know which direction your flux capacitor is heading.DKG999
