im looking to upgrade in the near future. my current Onkyo TX SV717PRO does not do my system justice. i have my RTi12's Bi-Amped with the three lower drivers powered by the B&K 125.2 sadly with the Onkyo powering the mids and the tweeter things get distorted. then i have my PSW350 in the front left corner, and my PSW1000 in the rear right corner. i intend on upgrading to the the whole LSi line up.

With that said what do you guys recommend for my current/future system needs. and do you guys think i should dump my B&K Amp?

    Hi,

I know Mike pretty well, so I can tell you he loves his Onkyo for movies but he uses his Dali Icon 6s and Sunfire sub as his two channel rig powered by the Aragon amp/Parasound Pre/pro. The Onkyo is great with the Polk M-series he's running...but the Dalis need more POWER.

Feel free to yell at me for speaking for you Mike?

See Mantis (Dan's) threads on ICE-power and ICE Club. I've heard those Pioneers, they're nice receivers...very neutral sounding. Not all of us absolutely love 'neutral'! But so far, no one has given the Pioneers any real negatives. Even though I prefer 'warmer' sound like the Onkyo; I still like the Pioneers which are not really as warm.

Hi jp4smiles, great question. If you are pricing the 05, take a look at Audiogon item #1243353132. They have it for $699.

With those 12s I would suggest SC05 or the 07 from Pioneer Elite

As some on here already know, I own a Pioneer SC-05 and it's a great reciever, have had no problems with it and decodes all the latest formats, it's hooked up to a 7.1 surround system. My Pioneer BDP-05fd, Comcast cable and Pioneer Elite Kurp plasma are all hooked up to it. I would checkout the Pioneer SC-05 or 07 or even a Denon, they make very good recievers too. I guess it matters on your price range and what you're willing to spend. But around $800 for an SC-05 I think is a great price IMO.

Is HDMI a must for the system?

No doubt the B&K will crush the Oinker for SQ, the timing, coherence, circuit topology are different, you may be better off not bi-amping. Perhaps using the B&K for your fronts and Onk for the rest.
