In wall or in ceiling

Looking for some input from everyone. I will be remodling a bathroom and turning it in to a bedroom for my 17yr old daughter. The question that I have for those with experience what is better in wall or in ceiling. This is probably only going to be used for music and maybe a movie or two every now and then. I am going to be using just a mid priced avr to control them. Im not looking for anything super nice just something that she can listen too in the privacy of her own space. Im not looking to get any bookshelfs because she has a lot of stuff and the room isn't all that big so she will be using most of the available space, you know how teenage girls are. Also after she moves to college I will probably be turning this room in my home office. So any help from you guys would be great.

Best regards
Mark

My gut reaction is to go wall. The studding there is needed for air volume used by a speaker box to produce better bass. That might matter if the subject room is on the 2nd floor with the attic above it. A ceiling speaker will not have the confined space, unless you box it in.

On lower floors, that still might matter, as the upper floor joists tend to run the width of the house and create a rather big volume. Plus, sound from the speakers will more likey leak into other rooms the joist pairs cross over.

I would go in wall because...like billy said there is too much space in the ceiling or an attic (unless you use speaker cups or a homemade contraption to keep the sound where it needs to go). I would be careful though, if she is a teenage girl then she will turn them up from time to time (anger or otherwise). I would do what I could to keep the sound in that room, not everywhere else. I would probibly call anyone you can find and ask some advice from professional installers, they might tell you...they might not. Or try a retailer you trust, some of those guys know their ****, but they are few and far between.

If it's primarily music, I would go in ceiling.
