Evidently these LED TVs are finally making it to your average Big Box stores (Saw a couple on display at Frys yesterday). They use LED for backlighting an LCD HDTV. It's supposed to have better black levels. Sony has their version. And Sharp even has a 65" version that's supposed to be ultra thin, but it may not be widely available yet. Expect these things to be expensive in the short run.

they sure look good that's for sure. We have a few of the new ones on display at our store. much better looking, not only cosmetically but the picture quality is better than last years samsung A950Speakers:

Samsungs new LED's are pretty slick. Very thin as you can see, about 1.5". The blacks are great and the color really pops. They are 120hz's but the blur can still be pretty bad at times...Other than that they are great tv's.
The 55" models are awesome. 55B7100 is the top model and the one below it is the 55B6000.Pro-ject RM-9.1 w/ Grado Sonata 1 -> USP-1 -> RPA-1 -> Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grands -
They seem to be priced fair. I wil have to get to best buy to check them out in person. Now does using LED mean it will last longer then LCD's and Plasma. Probally less money to operate. I like how thin they are. I did not know Sony made them also.TV- 52 inch LCD SONY BRAVIA XBR6

I've also seen that Samsung has some DLP TVs that are LED:

Well LED's by nature do last alot longer so i would assume so. They also have the advantage of being 40% more energy efficient compared to other flat panels.
Sony has the XBR 8 LED which is by far a more advanced version of LED implementation. The XBR 8 has local dimming LED where the Samsung is only Edge lit LED.Pro-ject RM-9.1 w/ Grado Sonata 1 -> USP-1 -> RPA-1 -> Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grands -
I saw a Sammy LED this weekend while shopping around BB and Conn's. They are super thin and have an awesome picture. However, I was going with value and screen size over picture quality, thinness, etc. and ended up purchasing a floor model 52" Sammy 1080p LCD from their A550 line for around $1200 out the door.
Almost grabbed a Panasonic 50" plasma (720p) they had for like $999 list with 10% off coupon (so $899) with a $200 rebate for purchasing a stand or mount. So, decent TV and stand/mount for under $1000. Definitely way more than you would've paid for something like that 2 years ago.
To think, 4 years ago my Samsung HPR4252 (42" Plasma, 1 HDMI input) retailed for $3500. No it's probably worth $500 or less, but does make for a brilliant bedroom TV, especially with my new UVerse 450 packageLove getting to finally watch HDTV exclusively, for 4+ years in my apartment complex, I could only get HDTV through an OTA antenna feeding my Plasma. Finally utilizing it as it was meant to be.
Back to the LED story, they weren't terribly expensive compared to full-featured 120hz LCDs. Maybe around $2500 - $3000 depending on size. Looks like awesome stuff is right around the corner for TVs, and probably why I got my TV for 60 cents on the dollar.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

$7000 is a little out of my price range for a DLP, even if it is 65".
Pretty cool that it only consumes about 100 watts, though. And I see where "Mitsubishis Laser TV instead uses a LaserVue light engine, a laser-driven solution designed to last for the life of the TV."
No bulb replacement costs. Pretty nifty.Sal Palooza -

lol well its not that its not a great TV, it just doesn't seem as "cool" and "new" as LED. For that kind of money i would rather have the 60" Pioneer Elite :cool:Pro-ject RM-9.1 w/ Grado Sonata 1 -> USP-1 -> RPA-1 -> Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grands -
I love my 50" Samsung DLP TV with the LED Light Engine!! Great pic and it will last a very long time.

I too have a 50" Samsung DLP, but with the lamp. I LOVE this sets picture quality, wished I would have waited for the LED light engine though. Mine is going on 3 years old, same lamp (knock on wood).Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

The lamp in my brother's LG DLP went out after about 4 years. I think my gf's dad's Sammy DLP bulb went out after about 4 years as well.
I think it's like $300 - $400 for replacement, unless you are handy and do the labor yourself. My plasma screen went out after 3.5 years, but BB replaced it under my 4 year warranty so running like new again.
LED looks like the real deal. I think it's the future of TVs. . . although I also bought 2 HD-DVD players so I really don't know ****.Stereo Rig: Hales Revelation 3, Musical Fidelity CD-Pre 24, Forte Model 3 amp, Lexicon RT-10 SACD, MMF-5 w/speedbox, Forte Model 2 Phono Pre, Cardas Crosslink, APC H15, URC MX-950, Lovan Stand

Yeah the price tag is a bit much, I just thought it looked pretty cool, lol. I myself have a Sony SXRD LCoS and I love it, it has an amazing picture and I ran it for about 3 years before the bulb went out. I got one from a friend of mine for free (it was about a year or so old and it was a spare he didn't need) I popped that bad boy in and BAM brand new picture, lol. A couple hundred bucks every three years for a "brand new tv" ain't bad IMO.HT Rig
