sda 2.3 help

Hey guys I just picked up a pair of sda 2.3s in nice condition. I want to go through these and make sure every thing is working like it should, as well as replace the caps in the xover. I've tried doing sine wave sweeps and things to try to determine if all the drivers are working but they are very confusing and the left and right speakers don't act quite the same so i know something is wrong somewhere. Before I pull out all the drivers one by one and measure the dc resistance of the coils and play some sweeps with the drivers out of the cabinets does any one have any ideas on what to look for or what to try? Specifically i've noticed the tweeters on the right speaker seem much louder than the tweeters on the left. I have heard popping (like driver bottoming out) sounds with only 250w rms/ch. The 'doughnut' drivers don't seem to do much of anything.
Thanks in advance
PS Would it be worth it to replace the doughnut drivers and the sda drivers with 6510's and rebuild the crossovers to 2.3TL specs to basically convert these to 2.3TLs?
Thanks in advance

congrats on the find... I know you will love them after you get them tweaked to your liking. As far as help however, I must defer to others on the 2.3's... Welcome to CP!The Gear... Welcome to the Club Polk Forums Nismotony!
The SRS 2.3 speakers are some of the finest sounding speakers Polk ever made. Your intentions to "remake" the 2.3's into 2.3 TL's will be a daunting task. You may be better off just buying a pair of 2.3 TL's for all the work and expense that may be involved. Besides, the SRS 2.3's with the RDO tweeters, rebuilt crossovers, some dampening material applied to the speaker basket, some decent interconnects and speaker cables will sound outstanding. I've hear both the 2.3's and the 2.3 TL's. Do they sound different, yes. Does one sound particuliarly better than the other? Not to my ears, you will hear opinions both ways. Upgrade your tweeters, crossovers and a few other tweeks that you can learn from the Forum. Don't be obsessed to get the TL version. It may not give you all that you think it will do.
Good luck and welcome to Club Polk!:)Carl -

Same with mine also! I am going to change the tweeters out anyway so I just thought it was due to age.Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -
