Question on adjustable volume control on NAD 2600 amps. Is it best to keep the dials at the MAX ? or 12 oclock ? position for normal amplification?

WIDE OPEN as RT said. But if it makes you feel better back off a tick.

    keep them at MAX.
Unless you happen to have high efficiency speakers, then turning them back a bit will give you wider range of adjustment with the preamps volume control.

I have a 7600 receiver, and the identically constructed component 1700 preamp/2600A amp on 2 rigs that sit next to one another. I've done a lot of "cross-listening" hooking components from one to the other. The 2 amps sound basically identical when the 2600A left and right volume controls are at max.

.....thank you for all input. I use a B&K pro10mc preamp with 2 preamp outs....feeding the NAD 2600 amp with Maggies (MG 1's) and a B&K st-140 amp driving "Whatever"....now Dahlaquist M907's. Always a big difference in volume when switching. Granted...the Maggies draw a lot more power. Now with the max on the Nad ...a lot closer. Makes it easier to compare. Maggies are my reference.

beware dumb **** advice on this board.

enjoy the NAD, one of my all-time favorites, the soft clip is a great feature.

Might that be in reference to my previous post.;)

If so please allow me to explain. If one has hi efficiency speakers they would require less power, therefore the disired maximum level may be achieved with the volume control on the preamp in the 9 oclock position or so.
That does not allow for much in the way of fine adjustment range,so reducing the gain on the amp (by turning down the gain pots) will allow for a wider range of the pre amps control. The desired maximum level may now be in the 12o'clock pos.Aswell volume controls generally have better tracking in the middle portion of their rotation.

poor Canadien, its always a tough time of the year when the icicles begin to melt and bounce on their head.

So then If I'm reading through the sarcasm correctly you actually agree that the pots can be turned back in cases where hi efficiency speakers or preamps with too much gain are used.Or do you have a better explanation for NAD's choice of including the pots?

you are exactly correct, the info about the accuracy of the gain dial is also correct, now beware the falling icicles.

of course if you choose to turn the pots back the amp loses its THX certification, well, actually, the 2600A did not have THX, the 2700 did, but its pretty much identical.

the best part of these amps is the giant green button, very cool.

    Thanks will do;)

a non issue, just don't let THX know you did it.
